her cheeked reddened when she heard Fallen's words. he did trust her after all. he even felt protective, she wouldnt dare admit but she really liked this side of fallen. She looked up at him as he glanced away. "your no trouble Fallen, really...this way i know your feed, warm and safe. i couldnt ask for anymore then that, besides remember our deal in the tavern? one day i may need your help too" as she finished she stood, but before she left she bent forward kissing Fallen's forehead, after she lifted his chin to look into his eyes. "you will never be a burden to me i promise." even though she was tired she managed to smile, her eyes soft. with a slight giggle, she straightened and turned to head up the stairs. heading to the kitchen, she felt very dizzy. she leaned on the pillar near the upstairs fire place. pinching the bridge of her nose, she tried to focus on getting the food her guests. ~you will fail them, just like you always do~ the voice echoed, Ashens eyes widened...no not now! She shook her head and continued to walk to the kitchen. swaying more then normal. its just because im tired, she reassured herself, she grabbed three spoons and bowls to match. she hand carved them herself, setting them on a large metal plate. this will make it easy to carry she thought. she grabbed her large flask of water and sling it over her arm as she picked up the large plate. she walked to the fire where the pot was bowling with creamy rabbit stew.
after ladling it into the bowls she quickly went back down stairs leaving the whispers and echos behind. she hated being alone for that reason. she shuddered as she stepped her bare foot on the stone. holy hell it was cold she hissed in her mind. she set the plate beside fallen. she handed one to Dreth but setting it on the floor "its hot, just off the fire, may want it to cool" she knew better then to hand him something hot. she turned to the fireplace, the 2 bannock loaves where still there, nicely toasted by now. she went and grabbed them carefully. bringing them over to fallen as she sat beside him.
her appetite was completely gone. she would be lucky if she could even get anything down, food just lost its appeal to her. he head hanging low she looked at fallen offering him some of the bread."home-made bannock?" she hoped her voice didn't sound to strained

Drethiel's eyes widened briefly as Ashen kissed Fallen's forehead, and a cocky smirk spread across his face as she made her way up the stairs. He looked over at Fallen, and rested his head on his hands, studying the Drow's reaction. Hearing him be as blunt and abrupt as he was, he figured there wasn't much he could do to ease the tension anyway. Saying nothing, he merely observed, eventually closing his eyes to listen to Ashen moving around in the kitchen. He didn't open them again until she placed the hot food beside him. Thanking her for the warning, he waved his hand over the bowl and lowered the temperature to something more bearable before he began to eat.
He ate slowly, enjoying the home made meal and savoring the flavors. In between bites, he half-joked at Ashen, tilting his head towards Fallen while doing so. "Let me know if you ever need him to stay put. He's a bit jumpy, nothing a little ice can't hold down though. I owe you for the place to stay anyway, and I doubt you want to be changing his bandages a third time tonight."

If the blood hadn't already been rushing to his face in embarrassment at her words, when she kissed him his mind entirely froze. Eyes wide, he turned his gaze away, wishing he had his cowl to hide under. Affection made him antsy and unsure, outward affection nearly made him squirm and he found himself stiffing a nervous laugh. Lowering his head, he hid under his fringe of white hair as she walked away. With his acute hearing, he listened to her puttering around upstairs, trying to distract himself from his racing thoughts and the ache in his side and back. No one showed him affection. Ever. And he didn't really like it. Not because he didn't enjoy it, but because he wasn't sure how to react. When Ashen returned, he accepted the food, still slightly bashful and toyed with it for a moment. He was hungry, not having eaten for a day or so, but he was still trying to organize his thoughts and pull himself together. When the angel spoke, all nervousness and embarrassment vanished as a spark of irritation and anger lit within him. Normally he wasn't quick to anger and could easily keep himself calm and stoic. But these were different circumstances. He was completely exposed, injured, and had already told the angel he was watching him. Bowing his head so his white hair flopped over one eye, he leaned forward slightly, turning toward the angel. His entire demeanor seemed to change in an instance as he flicked his gaze up to the angel. His single showing eye was dark but flashed dangerously. "I'd like...to see you try." His voice was monotone and emotionless, but despite this fact seemed even more dangerous than a raised voice could be. He was not just some injured drow and was not to be taken lightly, particularly by someone he did not trust or like.

"oh calm down fallen, not only will i not be using his ice i doubt you are foolish enough to~yaaaaaaaawwwn~ to go fighting when your hurt. Dreth behave, i dont have the energy for this and at this rate im going to run out of supplies." she set down her food, she wasnt in the mood to eat at all. she was just so tired. she moved her knees up her chest resting her head on her arms. she waited till Fallen was nearly done before asking, "hey Fallen, the floor is very cold why dont we go up to my bed chambers. its more comfy up there." she didnt raise her head. but spoke so that she could be heard. normally she would jest about sharing her bed but at this point she meant it with nothing but innocent and pure intentions. he would be warm and comfortable, and dreth couldn't make him tense anymore. only after she said it, did she realise what it could and probably would mean to her company.

Drethiel chuckled and met the anger in the Drow's eyes. Leaning in towards him as well, he half whispered his words, sending them out like a frosty draft laced with malice.
"Should you give me a reason to, I promise not to disappoint." He stared hard into the assassin's hatred and pulled up the corners of his mouth into a sly smile. Winter was his time; snow, ice, water and the like were what he had worked with for centuries. He'd long since lost his full-fledged angelic powers, but he had learned to make do with what he had, compromising certain things in order to focus his power on specific tasks. For example, he could not pull off a successful illusion and use his full powered ice magic at the same time. But he was efficient in what he could do, and had good judgement as to when and how to use it. In a worst-case scenario, leaving his physical body or arming himself with his icy shell were what he had to choose from, though he wished not to resort to the latter yet. The Drow may be a skilled and accomplished assassin, but that made it all the more exciting to push him a little. If he weren't injured, Dreth may even have dared to stroke his hair a little in mock affection. But now was not the time to cause roughhousing, or more blood to be spilled.
Instead, Dreth leaned back and stretched his arms out, letting out a tiny yawn and then getting up to his feet. He walked over to Ashen and ruffled her hair lightly, speaking down to her softly. "Thanks for the meal. Now go ease your fatigue." He then moved behind Fallen, and made an upward gesture with his hand - aiming to send a light chill up his spine in a thin layer of spiraling frost. "Enjoy your night with the lady of the house. She'll make sure you're protected from my angelic filth and terrifying water manipulation." He assured him sarcastically, ending off his statement with a laugh. With that, he continued into the frozen water room, and curled up in the middle of the iced-over water supply. As he closed his eyes the ice morphed around him, forming a protective dome overhead to ensure a peaceful slumber.

Unlike the feigned anger that he directed at the angel, when the creature took the bait rather than backing down real anger swelled in his chest. He was no one to judge someone from a first impression....no, he got enough of that directed towards himself. But this being was proving his first impression correct. Not answering, he narrowed his eyes, but forced his expression back to neutrality at the kinto's words.
No...he was not stupid enough to get into a fight while injured. In fact, he was not one to fight unless he was compromised as he was with the assassin who was now laying dead on the floor. In regular circumstances, when he had his eyes set on a mark, they never saw him coming. Nor did it matter if he was injured since his methods often didn't call for physical exertion.
But fortunately for the angel, he also did not kill because of dislike. In fact, the only time he did kill was when he was paid to, or out of necessity like earlier.
Giving the angel a cold shoulder, he focused on the food set in front of him. It tasted good, but at that point anything probably would have tasted good. As he was just finishing it off, Ashens words startled him. Tensing considerably, he turned his wide-eyed gaze down to his hands. "No, I rather prefer the floor." He spoke without really considering her offer, but even after considering it he knew that he would not. The last time he had shared quarters with another person was when he was a child. In fact, the last time he had even slept in a bed was decades ago during his stay with the elves.
Once the angel disappeared, he took a relieved breath. "I...don't think that it's a reflection on you." He spoke quietly. "But a reflection on me and my life." He didn't think he would sleep this night anyway. Not while under the same roof with someone he did not trust. "Also...." He paused for a moment. "What do you really know about that man." The words were spoken dully, as if they were stated rather then asked. He let his gaze fall on the body of the other assassin who had been so unceremoniously left on the floor. There was something rather unholy about that angel.
The angels words did not help his racing mind as he got up to leave. Outwardly, he completely ignored the shiver than went down his spine, determined not to give the creature the satisfaction. But inwardly, the chill lit a fire within him, burning with distrust and dislike.

"about drethiel?" she raised her head. "i know he saved me, and saved you. he isnt as evil and everyone says he is. he even purified your buddies soul over there" she pointed at the corpse without breaking her gaze on fallen. "he isnt that bad, he is a little shit..but he isnt that bad." she remained calm right until she remembered fallen wishing the cold stone floor over comfort. "and further more.." her voice now stern and annoyed "you can sleep in my room alone then, while your injured you have no choice, if i have to go into beast form and carry you i will, which i might...i will treat you like a kitten as i pull you up the stairs by the back of neck, if you fight me." she glared at him, she was far to tired to fight, and she wasnt taking no for an answer currently ither.

"He...Was not my buddy." The cold red eyes flashed for a moment. "That one has been after me for three years. He's chased me out of nine cities. I couldn't care less if his soul was purified or not." That man would have, without a doubt killed him had he not struck the blow first.
At the cool tone of her voice, the drow looked up. Just by her expression he knew that she was not one to be tangled with, but to be fair....neither was he. "There's no need to treat me like a child." His voice and expression was calm. He wasn't berating her, but reminding her. "Remember who I am." He had no need for comfort, nor did he desire it. In fact, comfort and luxury made him uneasy, probably because it was so foreign. He was still trying to get over the fact that he actually had a friend; someone to care about him enough to even offer this.
She was stubborn it seemed. But so was he. One night was not going to change a life time of habit. "A few blankets will suffice, I've made do with much less." Even just being under a roof and near a fire was more than he normally had.

"and don't forget who I am, i am leader of the silver scale, and your friend. frankly i dont care how impressive an assassin you are. i take no i will care of my friends like family because my friends are all i have in this god forsaken world. you are going to have to deal with that just like im going to have to deal with your stubbornness." she stood slowly. taking in a deep breath then sighing. "so fallen are you going to fight me more while i try to care for you or are you going to cooperate so i dont hurt you my mistake? her gaze never left him after she stood, she was determined to care for him proper. even if he was use to the floor, like hell she would let a guest sleep on the floor while she had beds available.

The drow shut his eyes for a moment in exasperation. He didn't doubt that she was entirely capable of making him do what she said, and being in his state he couldn't even elude her or teleport away. Not to mention, he was undressed and it was an ice hell outside. He swallowed then as his mind was barraged with thoughts and little realizations. He looked up at her, waiting expectantly but there was something in his eyes. Not irritation or anger, but a tiny flicker of fear.
Dropping his head to his chest, he pulled himself together. Pull yourself together man, she just wants you to sleep in a different room. "ok." He whispered the word, but the feeling of being trapped never left him. For all his many years, he fought to keep every single little detail of his life under his own control. It was why he didn't stay in inn's, and why meetings with clients were on his terms.
Maybe it was a mistake coming here.....he quickly crushed that thought. No...He had no one else. And Ashen was only trying to help him, she didn't understand the mental war that was waging within him. This was no fault of hers...
Chest tightening, he painfully pushed himself to his feet. And despite his shoulder screaming in pain, he kept it off his face. In fact, he fought to keep every emotion off his face, leaving it a blank slate. It was a skill he had learned early on as an assassin. Don't show anything....Life was easier that way. But was he really resorting to that here? He let a dead eyed glance stray over to the body on the floor. He was safe, more or less. That man had been working alone. It was ridiculous that he was so tense. But even so, he couldn't help it.

Ashen watched him as he closed his eyes in thought. maybe she had been to stubborn, she always had a nack for making situations worse for others sometimes. she continued to watch him as he looked back up at her. her eyes widen ever so slightly. fear? why is he scared? im not going to do anything to him, i just want him to heal properly. was he really scared of me? she felt a sickness in her gut. a kind of feeling that normally she felt when danger was around, a feeling that would make her run. the feeling worsened when he head dropped almost like he was defeated. her heart sank back into her chest. there was no going back but she legitimately felt horrible for seeming to put Fallen into a bind. but what am i doing thats making him have fear from me?
she gasped slightly and quickly came to his aid when he started to get up "Gods! Fallen take it easy i can carry you, you know. please... dont hurt yourself" her voice laced with concern. she took note of his face, he remained emotionless...oh no i did do something wrong...she looked down slightly. "im sorry fallen, im just trying to help, do you want me to carry you?" she looked up at him "its two sets of stairs and with your injured side it might be difficult, i wouldnt be carrying you in human form." was she ready to show another person he beast form? she had only ever shown her mother, and look how well that turned out. sure she joked about it but becoming a 9 foot panther with wings and silver fur runes wants something that was deemed normal. not only that but she knew she was pushing it with fallen. and if she kept being stubborn maybe he wouldnt want to be her ally anymore. she would let him decide how he was to handle it from now on. ~maybe you shouldnt have any allies, youll just end up getting them killed anyway~
she shook her head....not this agian... she grabbed one of the furs that had covered fallen and moved it over his shoulders, she didnt want him to get cold. "keep warm" she said softly while waiting for him answer. she would be willing to go beast form if she really had to. least for him. "you decide fallen, i dont want to push you anymore. last thing i need is to lose a friend over my stupidity" did that seriously come out of my mouth? sense when did i turn into a kitten again?

The drow turned his gaze down. "It's not your fault." His voice was almost a whisper. It was hard to explain, and even if he did would she understand? Probably not. She probably just think he was being stupid. He just didn't......people.....well.... "You're not the one being stupid."
Allowing her to come to his aide, he shook his head at her offer to carry him. "Please spare whatever dignity I have left. I can walk." Still, his expression stayed emotionless. Over the decades of friendless solitude it had become a coping mechanism, something that happened automatically whenever something shook him. And by the gods, he was shaken. He had already opened up to her in the tavern about his past...for the most part anyway. But he wasn't ready to open his darkest emotions....his insecurities...his fears...his secrets...Not to anyone. Even though she was a friend....changing his life rituals would not be a quick or easy process.
Swallowing the pain, he carefully slung his good arm over her shoulder for support. "This will be enough."

"Well your not being stupid either fallen, your being defensive which is understandable, we have only been friends for a short time" Noticing his arm come up and rest upon her shoulders, she braced his weight. "Just take your time Fallen. Ill go as fast as you will let me." Bracing his back with one arm. She began to slowly guide him to the stairs. She didn't know just how weakened she was until her body shock hold him up. She would have to take care of herself in the morning.
Slowly step by step she would match his movements on the stairs, her body was shacking by this point. Just a few more steps and then you can tuck him in and sleep outside the door. As they walked the stairs she felt the need to reassure him, especially after that look earlier. "fallen I hope you don't fear me truly, I mean only the best for you. I hope you know that I have no intentions in hurting you, as a matter a fact I feel very protective of you. I just wanted you to Know" she kept her head down as she spook. Finally reaching the top of the stairs she waited to Fallen's approval to keep going. He did just climb two sets of stairs after all.
Once he seemed ok she guided him down the hall to the room by a window. She managed the door open. Her room wasn't very big as you entered a bookshelves where to the right and left of the door to the left of the room was her dresser her storage chests and weapons. Straight ahead was a desk, stained with ink. With a matching padded chair. It was littered with papers and maps. To the right was a window, and a bed which was sized considering it was meant just for on small kinto, it could fit three of her.it was layered with furs and fabrics to soften the wood.
Carefully she helped him sit and position himself comfortably on the bed. And helped him lay down by supporting this head and bad shoulder. Once he seems comfortable she draped some of the furs around him so he was covered completely. She knelt down beside him on the floor, signing as she looked up, fatigued taunting her eyes to shut.
She took note that her little trinkets and trophies which dangled and turned above them, would probably be silly to him. After looking looking at them for a moment she turned her gaze to him. "Do you need anything else? I'll be sleeping on the floor outside of the door, that way you'll get your sleep and I'll watch for evil ice wielding individuals" she said the last part mockingly, she knew he wouldn't bother Fallen. Least not yet. She stayed knelt waiting for his answer, not trusting her legs to keep her up long if she stood.

Had his expression been one of emotion, it would have been embarrassment at her words on the stairs. So she had seen that little slip up on his face? "It's not you I fear." His voice was quiet, but not quite the whisper it was before. He wasn't really a man of many words. And he didn't intend on explaining anything....at least not now.
The flights up stairs up were difficult, but only from the weakness in his body. He could deal with the pain, he had before. It wasn't like this was the first time he'd been shot. At a quick glance he noticed that Ashen herself was having difficulties. So it seemed he was not the only one that was physically drained.
As he settled onto the bed, he studied the room. Any impression it had on him was lost to that same blank expression he wore. The mask of the assassin.
As she spoke again, he barely glanced at her in fear that his mask would shatter. He had never had such a hard time wearing it....perhaps it was because this was someone he actually trusted. "I'll be fine here. Thank you." But the thought of her being a sentry also caused him to tense slightly. Even though he could not and did not intend on going anywhere, the thought of being trapped and guarded made him considerably uneasy. Again, he swallowed the lump in his throat. "I'm sorry for this, Ashen." He turned his head away, causing his sweat drenched white bangs to flop over his eyes. "I need time...to reorganize my mind."
It was not her he feared. No. What he feared most, over everything else in the world was a cage. To be trapped with no escape.

"I understand Fallen, a lot has happened today. Frankly I would be surprised if you didn't tell me to go." She kept her smile up. She truly wasn't offended. "There is a flask of water and more herbs in the chest behind me." She stood, slightly losing her balance for only a moment.
Straightening herself she reached over and patted fallen's head. "Good night Fallen, I'm just a shout away." With that she turned to the door and gently closed it behind her giving fallen the room. Leaning her forehead on the door she let out a quite sigh. That face he had for some reason made her chest hurt, and she didn't like it.
Taking a few steps forward she leaned her back against the wall Across from the door. And slowly slid down the well chiseled wall. Bringing her knees up she rested her head on them with her arms. What the hell had you gotten yourself into Ashen she question herself. Slowly her eyes closed. She couldn't help but feel it was appropriate to stay right where she was, slowly she drifted off to sleep, knowing drethiel was safe, the little one was safe, and Fallen was safe.
