Shade laid in her newly known bed, taking a few deep and heavy breaths before coughing hard. God her chest ached in such pain and not only that but her head was pounding and stomach turning. Her muscles continued to tighten and she'd tremble but it was a horrible feeling, something she'd never felt before and probably never wanted to feel again. Yes, Shade had been sick before but it wasn't ever like this, never this bad. It was always fought off before it got this bad and this, this was scary. Simply breathing caused so much pain and annoyance to move an inch as she inhaled sharply.
"Fuck!" She muttered as she rolled over onto her side, groaning and gagging. This wasn't good, this wasn't comfortable, this.. this was gross and painful. Shade was quick to pull the blanket up and over her shoulders as she coughed long and hard. This was a wonderful welcoming to a new land, being sick and not able to move out of bed. "Son of a b-" She coughed again, a groaned following behind but she was quick to grab the bucket while she leaned over the bed and threw up the tiny bit of content that was left. This was horrid. Her mouth tasted like stomach bile and everything else that shouldn't be there or that she shouldn't feel.
There was one thing she knew that she couldn't do and that, that was call for help. She didn't need help, she could handle this on her own and take care of herself. Shade was a grown up, not a kid and even as a kid she took care of others before herself. It was just the way things worked but it was also rare for her to take care of others because Ashen came first. Ashen was pregnant and Shade needed to stay but with the way things were looking she'd be leaving before the kid was born. Another kid. A kid of the kid.
A soft chuckle past her lips but turned into a harsh cough, she couldn't leave and she wouldn't. Even if Fallen didn't like her being around she was staying for the sake of keeping Ashen safe. Shade loved her but she needed to watch over her and be the protector even with Fallen being around, she'd take care of her too. Another set of eyes wouldn't hurt anybody, especially wouldn't hurt to have another person around with a kid on the way.
She sighed softly and took a quick before before giving another heave and vomiting in the bucket again. It was going to be full by noon, possibly even sooner at this rate.

Ashen walked down the stairs to the basement, holding water, fresh cloths and food for shade. A small vial kept the food company, a tonic from the merchants that seemed to at least chase off the effects of the sickness that even affect herself. Fallen was able to get threw the day, as was she and everyone else that was, surely it would at least ease Shade with the vomiting and coughing.
Knocking on the door before her, in one of the basement rooms; ashen called out with a nearly raspy voice. "Shade? im coming in, i have food and medicine for you." Carefully she opened the door, and let herself in. she laid her eyes on shade, curled up over a bucket in her hands. "Oh...shade..." Ashen grimaced slightly, the sickness wasn't affecting her as badly but it seemed to hit everyone else harder. Perhaps she didnt breath it in, she only touched the trees after all.
walking over, she set the tray on the bedside table, as the candle flickered with ashens movements. moving to sit beside Shade, she moved and held her hair and rubbed her back. "dont fight it, just let it pass" She coached as she continued to help the best she could. She thanked the gods she had enough medicine to help everyone for the next few days if needed; thanks to the silver scale treasury.
Reaching over she moved the flask of water on her wrist, grabbing the tonic with her free hand from Shades back. "here Seke, drink this, you'll feel better."

Shade was prepared to protest her entering the room but she couldn't speak up, too busy with the coughing fit that started. Her eyes fell shut when the other moved her hair away from her face and coaxed her with such gentle words. Words she only knew from the long nights that she'd spend crying her eyes out to Ashen but that was so long ago that the thought of it had her in a bit of shock. She took a deep breath breath and leaned back a bit, looking up at the name. "Nobody has called me that in years.." A soft smile graced her lips as she glanced up at Ashen.
She chuckled a bit and put the bucket back down and took the drink, taking a quick sip and laying back again. Shade's body trembled but she couldn't help but smile as she looked at Ashen and the wonderful women she had become. It was amazing to see the difference from her as a child to now, it made her heart flutter knowing that this is what she was protecting and still was.
Her ring rested on the night table next to her, too shaky to put it on and too scared to keep it on and have it fall off. It was something that she'd always worn but felt like she could take it off, felt safe in the humble home that Ashen kept running. "Thank you and i'm sorry for all this shit that i'm putting you threw. I should have known better but you're still here taking care of me, so thanks." She muttered, looking her over once more before taking the water and taking small sips.
The water felt so nice on her burning throat, the cold feeling welcoming. Her eyes fell shut again as she sighed and laid her head back on the pillows. "This sucks."

"of course ill help take care of you, no thanks needed. i know your trying to fit in, you always had a nack for making the worst first impressions, i knew this would be the case once the idea of bringing you to my home came to mind. also had a nack for eating things you shouldnt..." Ashen smirked grabbing a close from the drawer of the table, taking some of the water and splashing it onto the fabric. folding it so the damp side was down, she began to pat Shades forehead in an attempt to help the fever drop faster.
"Yes, this Illness, it a bit of a challenge...never have seen anything like it. i hope it passes soon, with everyone getting sick, its worries me." clearing her throat after her words, she reached over to a honey bun she had made. "Here the bread will fill you along with some broth i brought, the honey will coat your throat easing the pain." Ashen smiled weakly, ready to help shade sit up to eat.

Shade let out a shaky breath, sitting up a bit and taking the cloth. The cold against her forehead felt nice but she couldn't help but smile. It was always around Ashen that she felt the most comfortable and that she could relax and actually smile while letting her guard down. It had been so long since she was actually able to crack a visible smile, it felt unreal.
"I'll thank you whether you like it or not you stubborn kid." She chuckled and rubbed her eyes as she shifted to sit up properly, pulling the blanket up with her. Shade sighed and looked down at the food, shaking her head. "I'm not hungry right now, just looking at it is making my stomach churn." Her voice was a little scratchy but it was better than what it had been earlier.
Her hand covered her mouth as she coughed again, clearing her throat and sighing. "This whole, getting sick thing, wasn't what I expected it to be like. This is the worst welcoming I could have ever gotten."

"yes, its the one thing i will always be, Stubborn" Ashen stuck out her tongue after her words in a playful jester. holding the flask for shade when she wanted water to drink again. watching her for a moment, Ashen couldn't help but smile genuinely. "its been forever scene you cracked a smile like that."
Ashen figured she wouldnt want food, it wasnt until the medicine kicked in that she was able to eat. she planned on leaving it there until her hunger returned.
Gently resting her hand on Shades shoulder, she patted it a few times before pulling her hand back. "it truly was unfortunate that out return something had to start with this. im hoping i can make up for your lack of a warm welcome."

Shade caught Ashen's gaze before looking down and nodding, "Been a while since i've had a reason to smile." Her voice seemed to hold a bit more sadness as her smile faded a bit but when she looked at Ashen again it was right back. "I'll eat later. Or well, try to but right now I just need to stop being sick. This is horrible. Worse than that one time at the academy." She shook her head and grabbed her hand, "I also don't need anything but for you to get some rest too. Let that be my welcoming gift."
She took a deep breath and held her hand for a moment longer before placing a gentle kiss on the back. "Take care of yourself, not just your family because your family is also inside you right now." Shade held a serious look in her gaze even though the sickness made the color dull it still held that searing emotion. "How's fallen feeling? I know he doesn't absolutely like me right now but if you trust him with your life then.. I have to accept it and move on but still stay close."

"i have smartened up scene the Academy, dont worry, there is a reason i took the medicine to begin with, its not just me and i know that." Ashens cheek did redden to Shades affection, this wasnt the first time scene the Kintu found her friend. pausing for a moment the panther continued, "I will take care of myself, and everyone, im a leader to these people, so i must be strong so others will be. Im not the little one you remember." ashen smiled as she looked around the room.
"As for Fallen, i think he is okay. im also making sure he takes his medicine." turning her gaze back to the Assassin, she smiled once more. "He has never liked anyone on there first try, give him time. As for trust, i trust him with everything. He has proven time and time again i can rely on him, he protected me agianst Maira, agianst god everything this land keeps coming at me with." Ashens gaze looked up to the stony ceiling of the room. "the only reason he is the way he is now, is because i had to save him during winter. even then, he is still trying, i dont even know if he realizes how much he tries. he attacks himself so much thinking i dont see it, but i do. You'll see it too, everyone sees it and everyone admires him for it."
Ashen sighed as she looked back to Shade, slightly embarrassed. "sorry, aside from you, he is the only good thing that has happened with my life. its only lately everything been going ok, with my family, with him, with this very house i built, now finding my father and my best friend alive! just, everything is so...surreal." raising her hand and rubbing her belly, letting out a slight sigh.

Shade nodded, letting go of Ashen's hand as she smiled. "I'm happy that things are going well for you and that everything is amazing, I mean that. But I want you to understand or attempt to grasp something for me." She muttered a bit more quietly as he pushed herself up into a sitting position and tugged the blanket with her, making sure she was still covered up. Her mind was racing a mile a minute but she tried to get her thoughts together before actually speaking her mind and telling Ashen her little confession.
"I know you aren't the kid you were before, you've grown up a lot and matured more than I myself can grasp onto. I want you to be happy, that's all i've ever wanted, all i've ever fought for was your happiness. You meant the world to me and you still do but you've got someone else, someone special and I don't want you to do what I did and screw anything up." She took a deep shaky breath, "I lo- wait."
Shade gagged and leaned over the bed again, grabbing the bucket and spilling the contents of her stomach into the now, gross smelling bucket. She panted softly as he tried to catch her breath before heaving again.

Frozen for a moment after shades words, shaking her head slightly. moving quickly and holding Shades hair, She was still stuck. What was Shade trying to say, they where never anything serious; or at least she thought it wasnt serious. She smell was beginning to affect her as she waited for Shade to finish.
"umm...i think i need to get you another container, this smell is probably not helping." making sure her hair wouldnt fall, Ashen went to stand up; only to feel light headed and almost stumble back down. after a pause she began to walk out toward the storage room just south of the room. before she left the room completely, she turned to look back at shade. "Ill be right back, just hang in there, we will finish this in a moment ok? i didnt quiet catch what you where trying to say"
Ashen nervously giggled as she walked away towards the storage.

Waking to find Ashen gone, it hadn't taken the drow long to start his search for her. If anyone needed rest it was her, also and infuriatingly so, if anyone wasn't GOING to rest...it was her.
Standing, he tested his balance for a moment before deciding that whatever medicine Ashen had found was working, at least a little. His head wasn't swimming as much as before and he found that he could walk without dizziness enough to make him want to fall over. For some reason, whatever illness this was was manifesting within him differently. Perhaps it was his drow constitution and he wondered if it would even be this bad if his body wasn't already compromised from the winters events. Glancing over at his tunic, the thought of putting it on made him shudder. He felt as if his skin would catch fire at any moment as it burned with fever.
Sighing he left the room shirtless, wearing only pants.
"Ashen?" He spoke before coughing as he took the stairs down onto the main floor. The Scale was deserted, save for Pye who was pouring over a vast amount of scrolls and pages in the corner.
A thought suddenly occurred to him that only made his temperature raise higher. What if she was with...Shade. He knew he was probably giving the woman a harder time than she was due...but he couldn't seem to shake the need to. The fact that she wasn't even drow under her facade seemed to make him feel even worse than if she had actually been one.
Sighing, he took the next flight of stairs down to the basement. The cooler temperature and darker light seemed to ease his discomfort as his vision sharpened with the shadows. Approaching Shade's room he second guessed peering inside for a moment before he ended up doing it anyway. No Ashen...Just Shade. She looked ill, worse than him. Was it because she became infected first, he wondered, or because of her different race. And she looked....wow she was an elf.
Half standing in the doorway, his sharp red eyes studied her for a moment before he spoke, "uh..have you...seen Ashen?" He ignored the slight rasp in his voice but suddenly felt nervous about the amount of scarred skin he was showing.

Shade let her head fall back and hit the headboard as she groaned, maybe she should just keep her mouth shut about everything. It seemed like fate had been trying to do so already as her stomach turned she rolled onto her side and stretched out. Fuck this was a stupid idea; coming back with Ashen was a bad idea and she knew it but she couldn't help the fact that she didn't think things through and let her feelings take control and lead her back with her. "Fuck." Her voice echoed in the room but she took another sip of the medicine before laying back again.
She let her eyes close, not fearing anyone to come downstairs and see her true form but she couldn't explain how much she hated looking the way she did. It took such an effect on her mentally that she hated herself a bit more, her fathers words echoing in her head but she sat up quickly at the voice. Shade looked the male over and her nervous gaze seemed to soften as she looked his chest over and looked at the many different scars that littered his chest.
"Ashen, she uh, she went to grab me another bucket.. I've been throwing up all morning." She muttered quietly, moving to sit up again but she was overly nervous to be near Fallen alone. Her heart pounded against her chest as she looked him over once more before looking down and avoiding his gaze. She could only imagine what the other thought of her. Pathetic, weak, worthless; In this form she knew that she was.

Fallen crossed his arms over his chest in a weak attempt to cover the scars when he noticed her gaze upon him. There was more scars than skin, given to him mostly by the bite of a whip among other things.
So Ashen was here then...taking care of someone else when she was sick herself....typical. "She'll run herself into the ground if we let her..." He muttered quietly, words born of frustration. This was nothing new.
He only then realized how uncomfortable the bedridden woman looked. It was something more than being ill wasn't it? "You must have been hit hardest..." He spoke absently, as his gaze flickered down the hall in search of his mate.

She glanced up at him when he started to talk again but she pulled the blanket up a bit more trying her best to hide herself from the other as he did the same from what she noticed. Shade avoided looking at the other and looked at the floor on the other side of the room and coughed a bit to attempt to clear her throat and make her voice more audible. "I know, she uh, she's stubborn. Always has been and from the looks of things she always will be."
She looked up at him when he spoke again, it was weird having him say so much to her even though they were small sentances they were still a lot more than she expected to get from Fallen. "Oh, uh, i guess so." She shrugged a bit, "Not too bad honestly. Other than the throwing and over heating while not being able to sit still it's a basic cold."

stumbling in the storage room, letting her hand rest on the cool metal of the bucket. Ashen stared at the metal for a moment. She knew what Shade was saying, she knew what words she tried to say and knew deep down she would have said it completely if she wasnt ill. It took a moment for Ashens breath to return to normal, the cold wasnt helping. Ashens mind continued to buzz as she rested her forehead against the shelf, her heart pounding in her chest. She had told many people that Aldwin was her First, in a way it wasnt a lie. however Shade was her true first, her first love, for years Ashen believed Shade only saw her as a 'thing'.
As Shade herself called it, helping a friend. Being a young kintu, and not knowing what he own body was doing ashen took comfort with Shade who seemed to know her better then herself did. she didnt think the elf, 'loved' her.
slowing her breath, she raised her head from the shelf; gripping the bucket in her hand as her other free hand rubbed her stomach. It didnt matter, it was true she had feeling for shade still...but she had moved on, and she was happy. Letting out a sigh though her nose, Ashen slowly turned to the door and began walking back carefully to Shades room. take slow steps as her head continued to sway her path. her chest was beginning to grow heavy, though Ashen knew it wasn't her feelings, it was the cold coming back. She would need to rest soon and she knew it.
walking her gaze never left the ground as she was lost in thought, only until something dark and blurry was nearly and inch from her. breaking from her trace almost instantly, she stagger back with a gasp looking up at the figure.
"Fa-Fallen? what are you doing here?! you should be sleeping!" Ashen fought back the rasp in her voice. turning her attention to shade for a moment, seeing her hand cover her mouth; ashen pardoned herself to Fallen as she slipped by and managed to hand her the clean bucket and take the other moving it away and across the room. "there...that should cover you for a while now." Ashen smiled, only to have it fade as she could feel the tension growing. Just what she needed...
moving to the end of the bed, Ashen sat down breathing out a sigh. She was having increasingly hard breathing problems. Finally catching her breath agian, she looked at her husband. "Fallen, you okay?"
