Out in the middle of nowhere with a shithead

Lanora grumbled to herself as she bent down to gather twigs and small sticks for kindling. "Damn his eyes, he always pulls shit like this" she shouted, a little louder than intended. She was furious with Tivares and hoped he knew what a fool he made of not only himself, but of her. It infuriated her how many times he had pulled stunts like he had done today, forcing them to flee from one town to the next, only for them to achieve the same results...all because of him. She finished gathering firewood and kindling and returned to the place they had chosen to rest for the night, having barely escaped dozens of soldiers. She saw Tivares and found herself instantly enraged by his presence. She dropped the wood at her feet and sat down on her knees, the slightly moist ground soaking her black breeches which sent a chill up her spine. She turned to the pile of rocks she had gathered and placed them in a rough circle on the dryest ground she could find. She began to build the fire, piling the tinder in the center and balancing small sticks and twigs above it so it would catch, however it would not. The tinder itself wouldn't catch, no matter how hard she tried. Weary and frustrated she glared at her companion, accusing him for all her misfortune. "What did you do to the tinder?" she snarled, "Why won't it light Tivares?".

"Me? Nothing. That water bucket somebody kicked over? Ask it. Speaking of, you should go get some more water, because we're all out." He sauntered over to the fire pit, smirking at Lanora. "I was angry, what did you expect?" He sat down, leaning against his companion's back. "I blame the elves. They never liked me, not after I poisoned their jackass head leader guy." He drew his knife, the red metal glinting in the sunset. Cutting a chunk of fruit off the apple he had left to grab, he offered some to Lanora. "Mediocre. Want some, Nora?" They didn't technically need to eat, but food tasted good, and their stomachs would rebel if it wnt to long without sustenance. Same with the fire. It was really more of a comfort thing. "Man, I hate elves."

Lanora grabbed the apple piece from his hand, "Don't call me that", she snapped at him "It sounds so...puerile". She bit into the apple piece and stood up, shoving him off of her. She looked at the wet kindling and the empty water bucket, then to him. "Damn Tivares!" she shouted at him "Do you know what this means? By the time I go get more firewood and water it will be too dark to do anything. Unless, this time you helped me, instead of sitting here causing trouble!" She stormed off, not far but far enough away from him. Though she doubted any distance was far enough, even another plain. She muttered to herself angrily, she was so frustrated at him...at herself. She knew this wasn't entirely his fault that they got run out of town. She hadn't exactly done everything right....or everything she was told for that matter.

Tivares picked himself up off the mossy forest floor, grumbling. "Puerile? Who even says that anymore? I'm not puerile. I'm like ancient. Ancient people can't be puerile, that's silly." Biting into the apple, he sighed and sat back, feeling slightly annoyed at the fact that Lanora had left him. She made a better backrest than a tree, that's for certain. And trees couldn't talk. Neither could dead people, which had caused some problems for him back at the city. Assassinating your own witnesses because they ate too loudly was not a good idea, it seemed. "I don't cause trouble. Trouble finds me." He complained, looking up at the stars. "I wonder when Nora is going to get back?"

She returned a while later, having put her frustration aside to realise how cold, hungry and tired she was. She looked down at Tivares as she approached him, "Got anything other than that apple?" she asked quietly, hoping he wouldn't inquire about her outburst or her absence. She felt sorry she had blamed him for everything that had happened, but she wasn't about to let him find out. She Sat down across from him but avoided eye contact, keeping her gaze low to the ground.

Tivares grinned back at her, glad for some company. "Yeah, a rabbit came hopping through. I don't like rabbits, so I killed it. We can roast that, right?" He turned around, grabbing his sack from behind it and rummaging around in it. "There's also this..." he said, bringing out a sack of assorted nuts. He laid back, his head resting in Lanora's lap. "Hey, did you know that eating other peoples chickens is frowned upon? I certainly didn't, and it would have been nice of you to tell me that BEFORE I went and pissed off the guildmaster of farmers." He complained, referring to the city they just escaped from. "Pompous prig. Thought he was SOOOO great, just because he fed like, half the town."

"Roast it on what fire, Tivares?" she snapped at him, without meaning to. She sighed loudly and her stomach growled. She grabbed the nuts and munched quietly. "Keep the rabbit, it can be breakfast. Just make sure no wild animals are going to come looking for it during the night. So put it in your sack and hang it up high in a tree a little ways away from us. We don't want any visitors tonight. Besides its probably better we don't have a fire tonight, in case the townsfolk are still looking for us." she instructed him. One of the few things she wasn't useless for was surviving a night in the wilds, in fact it may have been the only thing she didn't regularly ruin. The forest never judged her, never pointed out what she did wrong, because if she did it didn't matter anyways...it's not like she could die.

Tivares looked around, feigning surprise. "I thought were making a fire. I assumed that it would be done. It's been what, like, 10 minutes?" Looking at the rabbit he had butchered, he gave a snort of disgust. "There is no way I am sticking that in my bag. I'll smell like rabbit for days. I hate rabbits. They're always so god damn happy. I mean, come on. Nothing can be THAT happy for hours on end." He started tapping his foot incessantly against the ground, feeling fidgety. "I don't like this spot. It's boring, wet, and there's no fire." Glancing around suspiciously, he asked his companion a question. "Do you really think that monsters will attack? I never liked monsters. Too many teeth, not enough words. We should move." Getting up quickly, he tossed the rabbit into the bushes and gathered up his gear.

"No, Tivares, we can't have a fire because you ruined it..." She glared at him as he tossed the rabbit in the bush, "Isn't that why you killed it in the first place? And please, don't waste food, Gods know you'll be grumpy as hell tomorrow without something in your stomach." She sighed and picked up the dead rabbit, messily shoving it into her own pack as she stood up. "Come on, it's getting really dark. We need to find somewhere to sleep if here isn't good enough for you." She was tired and frustrated but tried to keep it to herself, she just hoped that she was wrong about the townsfolk, she wasn't looking for a fight...

"Splendid." Tivares answered, shouldering his bag and marching off into the woods, leaving most if the work for his companion. " And I don't get grumpy!" He called back over his shoulder as he stalked away from the clearing.

Lanora quickly finished gathering her things and ran after Tivares, "Hey! Wait up!" She called after him as her toe made contact with a tree root and her face made contact with the ground, slamming hard on a rock. She gathered herself and stood up, putting a hand to her face where she had hit the rock, it was cool and wet...great, now she was bleeding! She dusted herself off and continued after her companion, following him in the darkness.
