The barbarian wrapped her cape around her shoulders as she headed into the forest. It was getting cold nowadays and soon it would be dark, alas, she would be leaving for the Fresian Empire within the next week or so and she wanted to wander about the forest for a while before she left.
At least she knew she could wander without threat of imminent death now.
It was a familiar place to her, she knew the trees and the plants, each of them. She remembered events they took place here, many were great warm memories, however some were much less so.
She came to the main clearing and sat down, looking up at the darkening sky through the barren canopy watching her breath float up and dissipate. She did not know when she would return here. It was a bittersweet thought to her. She did not have much left for her here, but still leaving even if not permanently was still a hard thought to process. She sighed and looked back down.
She froze. Something was here with her. Something dark and wispy, not yet fully there. She stayed silent. Waiting for her chance to run. Its all she could do, she was alone and unarmed.

Lila drifted between the trees, halfheartedly getting used to her new form. The trees were getting dark quickly, and some base part of her mind took comfort in the shadows. She supposed it must be because of what she now was, seeing as the dark had always caused her skin to crawl previously. Anger flashed through her at the thought of her recent transformation, done against her will, without her knowledge. Bitter thoughts crowded her mind, the desire to hurt who had done this to her, the desire to spill blood and taste death. But the thoughts and the rage soon past, leaving only the quiet of the dead in it's wake. Keen eyes spotted something through the trees; a person. A familiar person, with a red dress and brown fur cape. Aria. Lila flinched when she recognized the figure, some sort of remorse briefly causing her ears to flatten. But this too past quickly, and she moved forwards, letting the darkness carry her farther, focusing to bring her form properly into focus.

She knew right then she couldn't run. Although still uncertain of what had transpired, she knew Lila had been killed and her soul... Destroyed... And she knew by some pang in her heart that this was Lila, the once shy and gently kintu. She backed away, frightened. Although that rarely happened, she was after all unarmed and running was not her strong suit. She opened her mouth to speak to the spectre before her. "Lila..." she shuddered before continuing, "I-Is that you?" She hid her hands under her cape, hoping she wouldn't notice they were shaking.

Lila felt a strange sense of amusement when Aria backed away. The woman was obviously frightened, her heartbeat quickening, her words shaking. She tilted her head slowly, feeling the fluid motion of her neck and hair moving. "Yes. I am Lila." She said in a monotone sort of way. No emotion, no inflection, reflecting what this form took from her. She continued to move forwards, closer to Aria, closer to the dark. The dark that was quickly fading around a soul, Aria's soul. It was bright, strengthened by the life within her. Lila flinched, and grew still, waiting. Her concentration wavered and her form flickered.

The barbarian had no idea how to handle spirits. She could crack skulls, stomp spines, rip off limbs and tear flesh from bone But spirits? Untouchable until they touched you, and by then it was too late. She definitely had the lower hand alone in the dark, the dark that seemed to get closer, ever encroaching on her lively form.
"What are you doing Lila?" She asked, trying to steady her voice and seem as stable as she could. The woman stopped slinking back and stood hunched, barely standing her ground. She held an arm across her midsection, a feeble attempt at protection, but one that made her feel secure.
"What is it that you want my old friend?"

"Me?" Lila thought for a moment. "I do not know. Waiting, I guess." That was all she could do now. Wait for Ashen to figure out how to fix her mistake, wait for the Raven to show his face again. What purpose did a lost soul have on an earthly plane anyhow? Lila took in Aria's changed stance, eyes impassively flickering over her. Defensive, protecting. As she should. "What do I want?" Lila parroted. "What do I want?" Her voice raised as she spoke further. "Revenge perhaps? Perhaps to be released unto death, perhaps to find live again? What do you think I want!"

"I-I don't know..." She replied in hushed tones. "I don't know much of anything anymore... I don't know who my friends are or how to save you or how I could have saved... her." She paused. "I'm just..."
"Afraid." Aria sighed, her shoulders fell as she closed her eyes. "It used to be so lovely. You me and the rest of us. Running around like a bunch of bards."
A soft dry chuckle escaped her lips, "I remember back then you were the fearful one. And now look at us." She let her head drop down, "I'm cowering from you."
The barbarian pulled her cloak around herself, still shaking, fighting the seeping cold.

Lila paused, another flash of anger flying through her. And then fading, as all emotions did nowadays. "Who could have saved her when she turned away from those who wanted nothing but to keep her safe?" She asked, expressionless. A careful eye might be able to see a glimmer of black tears in the corner of her golden eyes, melting into the black of her hair and her clothing. "I am tired of running," Lila continued. "My entire life was running, what makes you think I might have wanted more?"
Satisfaction was the next emotion to raise it's head. The barbarian cowering from her? What a turn of events that is. "I have no fear now. I feel nothing now." Lila said. "Although I cannot tell you if cowering is the best option."
The wind was freezing and ice was starting to form in Lila's wild black hair, highlighting where her form was and where the shadows around her were, but she did not feel the cold. She was entirely correct in her statement of feeling nothing.
