Ashen sat in the darkness of her death. Tears streaming down her face as the sobering reality hit her. She was dead...at the hands of her ally. "How...HOW!! I though...I..." Ashen sat bringing her hands up to cover her eyes as she cried. She was death...the day she needed to recover and help wulfric, the day she needed Fallen and Jay to give her space...now she was dead.
They where alone...they where going to think this was there fault when really it was hers. She left them alone...agian...she failed. She wasn't met to rule anything...she couldn't bring herself to accept the fact after this, she would never lead agian. First Idina...now wulfric and herself...
She brought her hands down her left hand engulf in shadows...the crackling of her shattering curse spidered up to her elbow now...she brought her knees up to her chest, holding them tightly as she fought the burning of her tears. "Failure" she muttered listening to the voice that echoed in her head.

There was a new spirit to attend to, and this one was loud.
Through the darkness, a being green like ferns travelled briskly, eager to find the person that required her attention. It shouldn't be difficult to find her, given her previous knowledge of her and all the noise she was making. Even if it wouldn't be hard, it needed to be done quickly; she sounded like she needed it.
A purple light shone in front of her, dimmer than the green spirit would have guessed. Still she pressed onward. As she approached, it was revealed that the light itself wasn't dimmer, but that it was being masked by something else... Large black cracks along the flesh, or what would be flesh on the corporeal person.
"Ashen?" she called softly, now fifteen feet in front of her.

"Idina?!" Ashen's head shot up to a fimilair voice. "How?! Your de-" ashen stopped mid sentence. "Of course your...dead. I'm dead...what I ment to say is normally... I never see anyone until...I'm back"
Ashen looked away slightly, the voice in her mind echoing louder and louder. Bring her hands up she covered her ears and shook her head to silence the voice. Bringing her hands down slowly she held her shoulders. "What are you doing here?" Her voice wavered as she spoke unable to look Idina in the eye. She failed Idina after all.

She could understand the Kinto's confusion. It was uncommon for spirits to walk among the living, unless you counted the fables of spirits with unfinished Earthly business. But this wasn't quite the living world.
"Consider my appearance a sign of how serious your injuries are. Your soul and spirit are both still connected to your body, however. Give Wildgard's healing magic some time to care for you, and you will be able to return." Idina gave a lopsided smile, one that seemed a little sad. "Even then, you will need much time afterwards to heal further. If I could, I would offer to heal your wounds for you. I feel I owe you that much."

"I'm dead...your dead...how the hell are you going to heal me? You still haven't answered why your even here? Normally I'm alone...in the dark." Ashen voice got lower as her gaze moved to her feet. She was still defeated...a failure.

"I would like to heal you," the girl insisted, "but I cannot. Dying stripped me of my magic." She looked up, intent on meeting her eyes. "But Ashen, you are not dead. Close, very close, but not quite. I came to you because you came so close, normally spirits do not involve themselves unless true death is involved. I came to assure you that you will live." Here she paused her words, fidgeting with her posture so her long skirt swayed from side to side. With a deep breath through the nose, she added one more thing: "And I also came to you because I wanted to thank you."

"For me to live? To thank me? For what?! I failed you..." Ashen stood as she spoke, looking at Idina. "Dragons reach was under the protection of the scale, I was so focus on the murder at the church of her and at your...relationship problems...that I didn't even see what happened to you... Only to find you that...that" ashen's voice wavered at the end. Tears threatening her once again.
"I lost sight of one of my whelpings...I lost sight of you... And now your gone...I failed and you want to thank me?" Ashen questioned. "To help me? Why?!" Ashen took a few steps forward before bringing herself to a stop, her steps echoing as did the words they spook.
Ashen still flabbergasted that Idina still desired to help her, after her steps she could only whisper "why?" Once more. She had failed Idina... Didn't she see that?! She failed and she died! She paid the ultimate price for her failure. How the hell...why the hell did she want to save ashen where ashen could not save her?!?!?

"Ashen," she urged, her voice carrying both worry and warning. She'd always had the impression Ashen was troubled, much more than she would ever let on, but this... She held her hands at waist height, palms up on either side of her. "Ashen, please, listen to me. Believe me, you are not the reason I am dead. You did not shove me into the Church; you did not draw your blade across my neck. You are not to be blamed for my death, Ashen."
Her expression softened, and she continued. "But you did house me and welcome me while I was alive. And when I died, you were the one who released my soul." She grinned; she didn't even have to think about it, not like when she had greeted Stelio. That was the difference regaining her soul had made. "I am much more comfortable where I am now that my soul has joined with my spirit. And that was your doing, Ashen. I know, I was right there to claim it."

Ashen stood, listening to Idina's words. Tears streaming down her cheeks once more as it became harder to breath. How could Idina not hate her? She didn't understand, wishing Miara's voice didn't ring in her head. Suddenly ashen closed her eyes able to silence the voice. 'To claim it' Idina's words replaced Miara's in her mind.
'She was there...she saw what I did...I...did a good thing?' Ashen's knees began to feel weak as she brought up her arm to cover her eyes and to wipe away the tears. "You don't hate me then?" She asked, her voice interrupted with hiccups. Still hiding her shameful tears from the one who wanted to help her.

Idina knew exactly what the Kinto needed to hear at that moment; thankfully, what she needed to hear happened to be the truth. "No, I do not hate you," she assured. "I could never hate you. You did everything you could, and that was plenty. Thank you, Ashen, for everything you have done for me."
Feeling it would be alright, she stepped towards her a little more, hands still open to show no harmful means and still smiling softly. "You will be alright. You will be returning to the world soon. I am certain your allies and whelpings will be glad to see you alive again. But you will need to rest and take care of yourself for a while after that. Your injuries were very severe; spirits normally do not visit the living except in dreams and close to death."

"I'm so sorry..." Ashen continued to sob as she took the few steps forward after lowing her arm. With her dry hand she took one of Idina's hands. "Please...I want to see my family...I have to bury another...I want to see them...death has reminded me how precious they are to me....it is unfair because you can't go back...I'm sorry to ask this of you...please..." Ashen continued to beg, her head hanging now as she continued to hide her tears and hold Idina's hand.

Though initially a little surprised when Ashen took her hand, Idina gave it a reassuring squeeze. "You will see them again soon," she told her, "you will be going back. I have no control over it, but I came to tell you that you will be going back. You will be very fragile when you return, however, for you have been Shattered. But Death will not claim you today."
Here she tried to squeeze her hand again, but this time the Kinto's hand fell through her own, solidifying purple passing through green mist. The spirit looked down at this and smiled, then brought her head back up so Ashen could see. "You will be returning soon," she announced.

"I want to take you with me... Bring you back to the world...Lila needs you... Your friends miss you.." Ashen began to calm as she spoke. Cleaning her face and trying to gather herself.
"I wish I could bring you back..." Ashen continued as she began to fade slightly, her soul beginning to return, she could feel the pull of someone resurrection.

Lila needed her... This comment surprised her. Her mind held on one end of a scale the look of betrayal and anger on the caribou's face when the blonde had confessed to her what she believes to have happened the night previous, and on the other end, the scream of anguish that pierced her ears soon after having first come to the Insubstantial Plane - that had been Lila's as well. The more she thought about her fiancée, the more she wasn't sure what to think of her. Perhaps she would have to pay her a visit the next time she was felled in the city...
Her sad, lopsided smile returned. "I appreciate the thought," she said, and she meant it completely. Back straight, she waved to the purple spirit as it faded, joining again with body and soul.
