The plan was simple, go into the insubstantial plane with the ring, find the raven and then banish him to the physical realm. There, a hoard of angry and grief stricken people would subdue him and burn his at the stake for the witch he is. The people were ready, and I was ready. "I'm going, make sure that no one comes near me during the process. And no matter what happens, don't wake me up." And with that, my thumb slipped across the blue of the ring, and the world was gone.
I awoke in the insubstantial plane. It was dark, so I imagined light, and there it came. Only when the light faded, I knew, would the raven be near. So I chose a direction and started to walk. There seem to be many souls here, each with a light protruding from what I could only assume was their death wound. Each seemed to have a light of a different colour, and they looked at me curiously before returning to whatever they were doing.
So I kept walking, and walking, looking for a sign, or a voice, or something, anything to show if he was going the right way. I asked the spirits, but none of them seemed to a heard of this raven, or if they did, they wouldn't say. Nevertheless, I continued on, for what seemed like forever. Then, I saw her...

There would be no getting used to this darkness, she feared. Not for a while. Then again, she hadn't been here long at all, so perhaps she was selling herself short. At least this was not supposed to be her permanent residence now.
Idina strode through the dark colours of the Insubstantial Plane, her step fixed and determined. There was someone she needed to see, someone she knew would be here. He was acting too brashly, letting grief and guilt fuel him into coming up with a plan no more effective or plausible to work than the Resurrect spell she had felt skim over her body not long ago.
A dark silhouette was blocking the purple of the horizon not far away, and when it turned, three yellow shapes were revealed on the face. There he was.
"Stelio!" she called. "Stelio!"

"Idina!" I ran to her, and before I realized it, I was right there with her."Thi... This is amazing!" I could hardly contain my self."I never thought I'd see you again." I went to hug her, but my arms went through her. Reality had found me again. It took all I had not to burst into tears. Then a thought occurred to me, and I turned the area into a field of flowers. "Anything can happen in this plane. Anyways, sit, let's talk."

The fact that she could see his arms pass right through her without being able to feel it only added to the disconnection the healer felt. Her friend was standing right in front of her, but now they were of different worlds. Everything felt wrong; this would take a while to get used to, too.
Her eyebrows knitted together with his suggestion. "You have minimal understanding of how the Plane works," she noted, almost doing more thinking out loud than speaking to the lizard Kinto. The she added, louder and clearer: "I would love to, Stelio, but I do not have that kind of time, and neither do you."

I tried to process what she was saying. "Wh, What do you mean not much time. I thought here we would have all the time in the world. At least let me ask you a few things, just to clear some things up. Please?"

"No," she said simply, shaking her head. Wisps of soft green light flicked out of the corners of her eyes when she closed them. "No, you cannot stay here long, nor can I. Neither the living nor the dead truly belong here." Though she didn't say it, she barely thought the living and dead belonged on the same plane at all, but this was something she needed to do. Something they both needed to do. "But yes," she added, "please, ask me anything. I will answer as well as I can."

"Alright, where do I begin..." I had to take a moment to get my thoughts in order. "OK, I'll ask you all the questions at once, and then you'll answer them in order. First, what do you want us to do with your body, do you know how your killer got into the church, what should we do with your things, do..." I suddenly noticed the light pouring from her neck. I shook my head and continued. "Is there anything you want to say to me to pass on to someone, do you want anything special done at your funeral..." I started chocking up, but I had to stay strong, I didn't want her last memory to be me crying over her. "Do you know who killed you, was it the raven, if so do you know how to find him in here, does the minister have anything to do with any of this." I waited for her answers.

"Bury me with flowers," she began. "Let me give back to the forest. I was born in one, after all. For my things, I have few, and I care not what happens to them. Maybe the merchants will see value in a spell book and dagger. But let me tell them that," Idina added, her tone a little harsh but her face soft, almost desperate for him to grant her that request. "The same goes for the others. I will try to tell them anything I have to say myself.
"My killer, however, is why I wanted to find you. Yes, Stelio, it was the Raven, but listen to me. He is too smart to make himself found. He will not be caught simply. You cannot expect to find him, but you must keep your guard up. He is a crafty man, and he knows what people expect. Stelio..." She trailed off for a moment, thinking on her words.
"Stelio, just assure me that you will not be blindly seeking vengeance."

"Idina I..." I so wanted to find the raven and kill him. Make him pay for all the bad he's done. But she was right, I was blindly searching this world I barely know for a being that I am too clouded by rage and grief to find. "Idina, I promise, I will not go blindly seek vengeance against the raven. Instead, I will wait for the right time to exact it. Until then, I shal keep my guard up. And Idina," I had to pause. "Though the time we had together was short, you were the best friend I've ever had. Back home I was a loner, any potential friends killed by the plague. When I came to wildard, I knew no one and remained mostly alone. Then I met you. You were always so kind and generous, and outwardly friendly. I guess what I'm trying to say is... Thanks, for everything. If it's alright with you, I'd like to keep your dagger to remember you by."

Maybe the pupil-less green eyes made it seem odd, but Idina couldn't help but smile. "I am glad to hear that I was of help to you. I know how an environment like your village feels." With a nod, she added, "Very well. You may take ownership of Winter Rose." A blade named for excellence. A blade that was never meant to meet flesh, having been used twice in one month to kill. It would be better in the hands of another.
"In all honesty," she continued, "I would like to ask two favours of you, if I may. Two, and only two." That already pushed the limit of what she felt she should be able to do now that she was dead, but she might as well leave a few things to rest with her.

"Of course, like I say, anything for a friend." I couldn't help but smile.

With a quick nod, Idina straightened her back and took a breath. "First of all, when you go and get Winter Rose, reach into one of the pouches on my belt" - she slapped her left hip to signify where they would be - "and find the blue and silver ring. I did not put it in the same pouch as my tea supplies, so if you find a pouch with berries and leaves and such, look in the other one." She laughed at the thought of Stelio trying to rummage through several little packages of yew berries, poppy seeds, and dandelion leaves to try and find the ring. "What you do with it after that, I will leave to you. Bring it back to Ashen, perhaps, or even throw it somewhere no one can find it again. Or bury it. It makes no difference to me.
"The second request is simpler. Tell those you meet who knew and cared about me what I told you about the Raven with the high voice." After a pause, she added with a grin playing on the corners of her lips: "He was not the one who killed me. Oh," she went on, "and bid them 'sweet dreams' as well, from me. Is that reasonable?"

"Very reasonable, I'll pass that on to them after I take the ring. Are you sure there's nothing specific you want to say to someone before you go?"

Deep inhale... Deep exhale. "No," she insisted. "If I have something to say to people, I will tell them myself. I made the mistake of not saying anything often enough in life, but I have a way of fixing it. Bid my friends 'sweet dreams' from me, and they ought to understand." The blonde nodded, mostly to herself, and looked as though she was about to start muttering something under her breath; she caught herself, however. There was still someone in front of her, someone she saw as a friend. If she wanted to fix her mistakes, now was the time to start.
"There is one thing I wish to say to you, though." She waited a moment to give him time to engage himself in what she wanted to say, then went on. "Keep my name off of whatever death blow is dealt. I am-- was, a healer. I restored life, I wish not to have it taken in my name."

"Of course, the death of the raven will be in prevention of other death. Not in vengeance for you." I took a deep breath, "Do... you think we'll ever see eachother again?"
