Despite the uneasy air that had settled upon the land since her return, Idina could still find solace in the woods. Her heart tended to tug her in the direction of trees, and she found she liked the sun best when it was streaming through leaves.
Barefoot, as was typical for her, she stepped carefully through the forest of Pan'Do. Up until recently she would have preferred keeping distance between herself and the city of Wildgard; now, however, she was spending more and more time within it, and thus opted to stay close. Even with its proximity to the village, the blonde found the forest peaceful, and sighed contentedly every so often as she strolled.
A twig snapped somewhere ahead of her. Her brown eyes went wide and she froze, fully focused once more. "Is someone there?" she called. Unlikely as she figured it might be that hostile parties would come this close to the town alone, she couldn't be too careful...

Cyndra smiled as she walked, revelling in the quiet of the woods. She loved to watch people, but she also loved the peace she found among the strong tree trunks and dappled sunlight. Seeing a small bush that was beginning to bud, she crouched down and reached a hand out, gently touching a thin branch. She had arrived back in Wildgard at the perfect time: a few weeks into spring, just as plants started to grow and leaves began to appear.
Her smile brightened as she straightened. Continuing her walk, her sturdy boots crunched over some old leaves and twigs. All of a sudden, she heard a soft yet strong voice call out. Cyndra turned around, peering through the trees. "Yes? Hello?" she answered.

A hostile person, Idina decided, would not have answered her call. Her shoulders and legs relaxed, no longer wary, but she was definitely curious now. That voice was a new one...
A splash of blue stood a little ways in front of her, nearly hidden among the trees. That had to be it! She took a couple steps forward, hoping to better see the girl who had called back. Now, she could see her properly; a pretty blue tunic, neat hair, and a little smile. The blonde thought back. She remembered the blue, and she definitely remembered that smile, if only vaguely. Perhaps this was another girl from Fort MacNeil?
"Hullo!" she greeted, offering a smile of her own. "I believe I have seen you once before!"

Taking a few steps towards the voice, Cyndra saw a long white skirt and a friendly face. The little blonde was familiar, although Cyndra couldn't immediately place her. She pushed some curls back behind her ear then lifted her hand in greeting, smiling directly at the other girl.
"I think... No, I do know you! You're from the Fort, right?" Cyndra's brows drew together for a moment as she thought. "You are a friend of Thea's, I believe?"

The mention of a good friend's name sent warmth through Idina's body. "Yes," she affirmed, "to both. I am loyal to the Fort and friend to Thea." After a moment of thought, she balled one of her hands and slapped it into the other, open palm. "I knew I recognized you! I remember taking a walk with you and Thea last fall; that was a lovely time!"
Her mouth then shifted to one side of her face as another thought crossed her mind. "Hmm... I cannot recall your name, although I do remember us being introduced. Would you mind refreshing my memory?" Her grin had gone from ecstatic to sheepish, but there was still a smile on her face nonetheless.

Cyndra's smile brightened as she realized that she and the blonde remembered each other from the same afternoon. She giggled lightly, a soft musical sound amidst the gentle forest noise.
"Don't worry a bit, I'm guilty of the same memory lapse!" Closing the distance between them to a few steps as she spoke, Cyndra clasped her hands together in front of her body. "My name is Cyndra Sharn." She tucked the same section of hair behind her ear then reclasped her hands. "What's yours?"

Cyndra! That would be an easy name for her to remember; she made a mental note to check if any blue flowers had similar names at a later time. "Pleasure to meet you again, Cyndra!" She grinned, subconsciously mirroring the girl's hair-tuck motion, but her hair was too short to stay, and slipped past her fingers.
"As for myself," she continued, touching the fingers on her right hand, the hand with the ring, to the middle of her chest, "I am Idina Doc. Pardon me for not mentioning it earlier!" Her hand curled into a loose fist and her head tipped a little to one side. "Might I ask if there was anything in particular it was you were doing before I interrupted you?"

The blonde tried to tuck some hair behind her ear and Cyndra almost laughed as it went right back to where it had been, framing her face along with the rest of her hair. She was cute, Cyndra concluded, but that didn't mean that she was shallow of mind. In fact, the brunette sensed that she was quite the opposite.
Idina. A pretty name for the pretty girl, Cyndra thought. And unusual enough that she should have no trouble remembering it. She wondered if the name had a special meaning, but decided she would not worry about it. The origin and meaning of names interested Cyndra, although she often preferred to let a person's actions define their own name.
In answer to the other girl's question, she said, "I was only taking a walk really. A bit of an escape from the town for a little while." Curious as to whether the blonde's purpose was the the same of different from her own, she asked, "And yourself?"

Idina nodded a couple of times, equal parts understanding and agreeing. "I do not blame you in the slightest," she said. "Wildgard has been getting a little more hectic these days; I was not here very often until recently, but I sense such. Thankfully, the forest is a good place to relax. So I suppose I had the same idea as you, actually!"
She had opened her hands outward when she said this, but after a moment's thought, she curled them back towards her, as though taking back her words. "Well, yes and no. It is calming here, but I am more used to Pan'Ti as a place to walk around. Although I had been lead out of those woods at swordpoint the last time I was there, so I can be forgiven for wanting to calm down somewhere else." Her voice had humour to it as she spoke, and now that the event in question was a ways behind her, she couldn't help but chuckle at the idea of using a threat as an excuse to avoid someplace.

Cyndra thoughtfully brought her hand up to cup her cheek. "I feel that much has changed since the fall. Although, that does seem to be somewhat normal around here." She sighed softly and let her hand fall to her side. "In the short time since my return after the winter, I've heard the Fort mentioned in the same breath as barbarians and bears!"
She gave Idina a bit of a sheepish grin, saying, "There are days I find myself questioning the safety in staying here. Especially because my main skills are as a healer, not as a fighter..."

"If it helps any," Idina offered, "the bears mentioned in that sentence would be on the same side as the Fort. Queen Ursa of the bears is on our side! That was why I was lead out of Pan'Ti at swordpoint, actually; the man responsible assumed greatly of my abilities as a healer, and so... 'recruited'" - that word didn't feel quite right - "me for the Queen's army." That also wasn't the right word... She hoped her point got across regardless.
Then came Cyndra's comment about feeling safe, or rather the lack of such. "Trust me, I do feel the same way," she sympathized. With a contemplative sigh, she went on to say, "But the way I look at it, the city could use some cheer and good will in times like these especially! And, well, I have come to learn that healing people tends to make them happier. I would much rather heal than shed blood myself, honestly."

"Well," Cyndra said with a bit of a laugh, "it's good to know that Queen Ursa is allied with the Fort, and that she has a healer to depend upon. Although that sounds a strange method of recruitment..." She shrugged after a moment of thought, dismissing it as an event not unusual of Wildgard.
"But nonetheless. I must say, I certainly understand and share your preference to healing!" Subconsciously, her hand moved to rest on the pommel of her short sword. "I like to heal, to help. But if I must, then I will defend those whom I hold dear."

Idina's expression shifted to demonstrate a more pensive air. "The Queen had three healers on her side that day, if memory serves me well," she said with neither glee or grim in her voice: she was simply staying a fact aloud. Inwardly, however, she has suspicions both about the man who'd brought her to the Queen and why he'd sought her out. She would rather not soul the brunette's relaxation, however, so she deemed those suspicions as not being a conversational topic.
Instead, she gestured to her dagger, sitting comfortably in a sheath on her hip. "I have a weapon as well, but I admittedly am not skilled with it." She laughed. "Truth be told, I have hardly any idea of how to use it properly! It has only ever been used for cutting flower stems. But I do not see that as a bad thing." She recovered the sheath with her cloak. "I was raised this way. I do think it noble that you would defend someone with your weapon!"

Idina's neutral tone sounded disinterested, but Cyndra suspected that there was some feeling hidden beneath it. Yet she would not pry, no matter how much she might like to know the other girl's inner thoughts.
Brought out of her own thoughts by the blonde's mention of weapons skills. Cyndra grinned, remembering an afternoon in the fall, before the snow. To explain her grin, she said, "I recall one day when Lord MacNeil had me spar with him awhile. Somehow, I doubt I'd be much use in a fight." Her grin softened a bit as her mind caught hold of something else the blonde had mentioned. "But I believe you mentioned cutting flower stems? Do you spend much time doing that?"

"You lucky girl!" Idina cried in regards to her story of sparring with the lord of the Fort. Surely Cyndra's statement about not being much use in a fight had to be wrong, with someone like him helping her! She remembered how much a spar of her own with Thea had helped her with her own uneasiness with a weapon; she could only imagine how much a row with an experienced fighter like him would help one's skills! It sounded like it had been only the one time, though, so she could understand her way of thinking.
Her own grin only grew brighter when the other girl asked her about flowers. "Not a whole lot nowadays, but I used to!" She explained: "Before I came to Wildgard, I made most of my keep off of selling flowers. I have enchantments to make them live longer, and each flower in a bouquet has a specific meaning. Couples in particular adored my business!"
With a chuckle, the blonde shook her head a little. "That business has not been as active since I came to Wildgard, however. The need to pay for a place to stay had not been as great in the Fort."
