The darkness yields what the weak fear The demons and evils which in your face jeer For the monsters within will be all that you hear when the Deadlands you enter sheer.
Lukis repeated the poem to himself multiple times in his head as he twirled his knife in his hand. The last time he'd been given a warning about the place. he'd gone anyways and suffered the consequences. What kind of an idiot would not only go back but also go back just as he were when he first went?
Lukis Vinterheim was the right idiot.
He'd returned to the Deadlands this time to find the Fire Giant Fortress he'd entered on his first excursion, as his current goal was to rescue his dog and the poor, not yet drunk alcohol sitting in the cellar. Thok, his Scottish Terrier, took priority in this case.
As he treaded, the dead soil cracked beneath his heel, but in the drunken state he was in, he didn't seem to notice and/or care, as he continued forwards with ease.

'Who on Earth...?'Gilliead tilted his head, squinting toward the south against the mists. "Yeah that's definitely real. Not seeing things this time." He murmured to himself. He had been crouched along a rigid craig, collecting a strange Mineral he had discovered on one of his many hair-brained and useless missions. Scooping the rest of the chiprock into his jar, he gave it a quick shake, watching the Silver dust whirl and then settle. The young man stuffed the jar into his satchel and retrieved his 'Tools' and placing them carefully amongst the jar and his other belongings. 'Who would be wandering out here all alone? - Aside from myself of course. There are .. Fire Giants about.'He watched the man stagger through the deadlands mindlessly, aimlessly. Headed right for the Danger Zone. Gilliead shook his head and stood, trying to get a decent hold on what he was seeing. 'Looks familiar though...' The Nomad took a deep breath and transformed, In a blink of an eye his body had warped into a large dusty grey Lion. With Brilliant Yellow eyes and a Black patch over his Left eye. He Locked sights on the wanderer and leapt from the rock, heavily pawing over to him, Careful of retaliation, he stayed out of Weapon range. Gil followed close behind, off to the Man's right hand side.

Lukis turned about at the sound of someone following him and looked down at his side.
"Go get him Thok!" He ordered, but then put his hand on his chin and frowned: Thok was still missing, and so he had no one to be a scout for him except himself. Slowly, the Nord removed his kitchen knife from his pocket and lifted it in front of him just in time to see a large white Lion coming towards him in intrigue. Slightly unnerved by the cat's presence, Lukis swallowed hard and took a simple step back.
"Who are you? Why are you here? Don't you know there are Fire Giants about?"

Gilgaard the Lion laughed, his yellow cat eyes glowing in the dim surroundings. "I was going to say the same thing! Who's Thok? Are you Thok? I'm Gil, just checking up on ya, is all... what's your name?" Gil padded along side the man, eyeing his kitchen knife. 'what does he think he's going to do with THAT old blade? I've seen Rocks sharper out here.' The Lion shook his dusty mane and walked around the man with a spring in his pawsteps.

Looking at the white Lion, not at all surprised that it was talking to him, Lukis smiled and put his knife away before drunkenly bowing to introduce himself.
"Name's Lukis Vinterheim. And Thok is...well, he's my dog. I came here a while back and lost him, so I'm here to get him back." He told Gil.
The Nord pulled out from his belt a bottle of golden beer and, with a slight shake, handed it to the lion. "Would you like a bottle?" It wouldn't matter if the cat took it as he circled around the Nord, but he felt it was very courteous to offer a drink to a new friend, especially if he wanted said new friend to help him out. "Or," he continued, "if beer's not your thing, there's a large Fortress where there's a few crates of Fire Giant mead, among other things. What say you, friend?" Despite seeming like a bit of an idiot, Lukis had always been-and always will be-a clever old man.

The lion cocked his head and looked quizzically at the bottle. "Well, I suppose a drink of courage couldn't hurt." He sat down and almost instantaneously shifted into the shape of a Raccoon. He climbed up the side of Lukis' Leg to his shoulder, reaching for the bottle eagerly. "The Raccoon." He said. Pointedly. "Fast, Fairly Agile, Excellent climber, and , Poseable thumbs, are a plus for holding, opening and various other tasks." He nodded, Sucking back the bottle. Lukis didn't need to persuade Gil. He was always up to no good and looking for an adventure. A Little fire in the Belly lights the Spirit on the path of Adventure, He always said.
"Where abouts did you see Thok Last? Those Nasty Fire Giants Get 'em? Wanna sneak in and take a look around?"

Lukis smiled as Gil took the bottle from his hand in the form of a raccoon before slurping it. "Actually," he began in response to Gil's inquiry, "it was those nasty fire giants that took him. I...kinda went looking in their fortress not too far from here, mainly out of boredom and need for adventure. They captured me and took my dog because I took their treasures. Kinda can't give the treasures back since I sold them so they turned me into a fire giant. It's only sometimes though...like a cold, or a pimple. Or accidently flirting with a gay pirate. Either way, I'm sad without him, and so I'm going in there to try and either kill them and get Thok back, negotiate and get Thok back, or all three." The Nord shook his greasy hair out of his face and puffed out his chest, ready for adventure. The Fire Giants were probably expecting him, but he didn't care. His knife was enough to help him, and a few extra glass bottles could do some damage if thrown. Even this Gil-Lion-thing seemed into fighting some nasty giants. (The Fire Giant Fortress as Lukis last remembered it)

Gilgaard half-heartedly listened to the man, nodding slowly. "Alright!" He exclaimed. "We're going on a Dangerous Adventure, low chance of success, high determination, high expectations. Sounds like my odds. We'll get yer dog back. NO worries." He hobbled off from Lukis and turned to look back. "Just don't get too carried away, things seem to work out better when you keep your cool."
The Raccoon wiped his mouth of Beer foam and took the form of a Tall upright figure, slim and lanky. A Human Male with dull yellow hair, short and spiked except for a long wispy ponytail. Dressed in grey rags and black leathers. His Skin was pale and murky looking, like he'd lived his entire life in soot. He grinned widely at Lukis and Nodded. Eyes reflective and yellow like the Lion he was shaped like Earlier, with that odd black patch over his left eye.

Lukis smiled at Gil's enthusiasm at a potentially--no, screw potentially! indubitably--perilous quest for a man he just met and got beer from. If it were the Nord in his position, he wouldn't have done it...actually, he would've. Either way, going out of your own way to help another man was an admirable trait, especially since Lukis had seen so many negative traits in his time: disloyalty, betrayal, and general liar-liar pants on fire-ness.
But what was this Gil like? Obviously a shapeshifter who maintained a black dot over his eye like he'd been beat up in a fight, and someone who liked adventure and the possibility of being torched/murderer/raped/all of the above by Fire Giants. Otherwise, there was nothing Lukis knew of him.
"So..." Lukis muttered awkwardly as they treaded through the cracked wastes around them. "Got a story? What is the story of Gilgaard?"

Gil looked up at the man, for a moment, as if to say something , but thought better of it, 'well- nah, I won't lie to the man, I'm opting to travel with him, he deserves to know who he's travelling with, no? If for no other reason, he's supplying the Beer, and there's plenty more where we're going.' He raised his hand and scruffed up his spikey blond hair and looked Lukis in the eyes. "Well, This fine specimen of Gilgaard, is the only one, A Rarity, you see. you'll never find another one like me in these parts. At least none that i've ever met... I uh, do believe that I live somewhere around here. Though it has been many years since I can remember the exact location..." He craned his head and scanned the silver dust hanging low like mist, The Deadlands were as desolate as he could always remember, and nothing seemed to have changed in many years, he Knew where he was, and where they were going, but nothing else came to mind. So he shrugged it off. "I am a wanderer of sorts I Guess. I don't have much of a Story to tell, even if I could remember it. As far as I see it. I was born here, and have lived here since... As my clothing could undoubtedly explain. As for anyone else, I'm not entirely sure. I tried to seek out the Fire Giants once, they drove me into the ground so hard I had to assume the form of a Flyer and get my tailfeathers out of there. They're not much for talking."
He began to walk, leading the way to the Fire Giants. He never really thought of it much, He was content finding his own answers, He stuck a hand into his satchel and pulled out the previous point of interest, the small vial with the mineral rock he'd been investigating. It told him nothing about who he was or what he was doing there. though the mineral rock itself was extraordinary to behold.

Lukis nodded at Gil's story--well, lack of, at least. Still, it was hard to believe someone like him was the one and only of his kind that he knew of. Where did he come from? Where did his mama and papa go? Surely they must have had something to do with his creation.
The dusty plains of the Deadlands almost seemed depressing to Lukis: the scarred earth, the crusted soil, the plain-coloured rocks...all of it just wasn't a good sight to behold.
"Fire Giants..." The drunk Nord muttered in response to Gil's little tale. "Last time I was here, they seemed more like they wanted to laugh at the fact that they'd turned me into one of them. Long story short, don't cut off any of my body parts while I'm all humany and such."
Suddenly, Lukis caught a gleam in the corner of his eye and looked over to see Gil holding a small vile of...what was it? He leaned in closer to get a look at the silver dust within the glass container, seeing a beautiful powder of sorts.
"What is that?" Lukis asked his companion.

Gil had been staring off into the Starry Silver sea inside the Vial, he popped his head up "Hmm? - OH, this?" Sid replied, with a serious kind of pondering gaze. "I'm not sure really, but it's Great. And it's only found in some areas of the Deadlands, it shares Properties with the Dragonspine. I think it's something Magical." He nodded. "Something Epic. I'm just not sure what it does or how to find out that it's Magical..." He shrugged. Putting the Vial Back in his satchel. "I'll give you some. To Celebrate getting your Pup Back. When we do."
He turned and looked to Lukis and smiled. "-Because you know we will." Gil continued to walk. Slowly at first and then Faster, Until the Outskirts of the Fire Giant Lair could be seen in the near distance. "Hey uh.. You're not going to turn into one of them are you?" He Shot a concerned Glance over at the Nord.

Lukis nodded at Gil and smiled. The vile held such a beautiful mineral that it was almost impossible to resist his offer. At least until they came up to the fortress of the Fire Giants did he think it was a good idea. But upon seeing the black gates in front of them, he began doubting.
Black smoke arose from behind the smoldering, ruinous walls, embedded with red , fiery stones glistening with inner flames. Deadly-looking spikes like demonic horns reached high up into the ash-filled clouds, peaking into them with such majesty and horror that even looking at them gave the feeling of toppling over and falling to the hard ground below. The front gates were like nothing any mortal had seen before, taking on the form of an oxen skull on the front, split down the middle for the doors to open and let pour out armies upon armies of evil, fiery monsters. No other words besides dread and horror could describe the scene in front of both explorers.
"Let's head in, shall we?" Lukis chirped.

Gil Stared up at the menacing Gates, like many times before. though the area wasn't well known to him, the Image had long since lost it's intimidation. "These walls are meant to keep out Intruders of the walking variety. They Look menacing and hopeless, until you realize you can fly." He nodded. Not a hint of Worry in his voice. rather matter-of-fact-ly... He rubbed his hands together and took a deep breathe, a grey fog emitted from his feet, and in an instant he took another form, This one much larger than the last. A dusty grey Gryffon, covered in shimmers and silvery highlights. He clawed and pawed at the ground getting used to his new structure, how the Body moved, how his muscles reacted. Stretching his Neck and wings, He clicked his beak. "Too Easy." He said, with a confident swish of his tail.

Lukis' mouth gaped open like an awestruck child as right before his eyes, Gil morphed from whatever he was into a large, majestic Gryffon: grand wings upon its back made its presence so imposing, and the sheer size was enough to chill any Fire Giant.
It was then that Lukis remembered that he couldn't exactly fly.
"Hey, uh, Gil? You will remember to take me with you, right?" He called to his companion, slightly worried, although something in his voice said he knew Gil wouldn't leave him, especially not this close to Thok.
