The door to Thea's room cracked open just a little, as quietly as it could move. Fyf peeked into the doorway, a hazel eye catching the moonlight in the room. They looked around for something and, seeming to have found it, pushed the door open a little more and slipped through the gap. Closing the door behind them, they crossed the room silently and lowered themself to the ground, sitting across the floor from where Thea was sleeping.
It was impossible for the cat Kinto to get to sleep tonight. It wasn't a case of nightmares, nor of discomfort, nor anything else they could name that was keeping them awake; sleep just wouldn't come. As such, they figured they ought to find something else to do, and they'd been thinking of possibilities when the owner of the Dragon's Reach had crossed their mind. It had been a few days since her possession - long enough for any mess she may have caused to be cleaned up - and she seemed to be doing better. Even so, Fyf figured there couldn't be any harm in checking up on her, especially since her possession had occurred at night.
Now they sat on the floor, on the opposite side of the room from Thea. Their sitting position was lazy and relaxed, and they had left their belts and weapons in their own room; perhaps they couldn't sleep, but they wanted to feel at ease around the young woman.

Thea sturred in her sleep. Many nights training herself to hear everything, even in her sleep, had taken their tole. Regardless of safety or not, she sensed the movement of the light footed cat Kintu. Lazily she opened her eyes, mumbling something inaudible and turned over. Then she spun around quickly pulling her dagger from under her pillow, but it was to quick. The dagger fell from her hands before she vomited blue liquid and doubled over.

Fyf saw Thea begin to move and focused on her, watching carefully for what she might do. What she did do, in fact, was try and grab a dagger from under her pillow before retching and dropping the weapon.
Their ears flattened against their head in shock and surprise. They leapt to their feet and took a step toward her, ready to catch her if she lost her balance. She was doubled over, and so they crouched down a few paces away, looking at the top of her head, waiting for eye contact. "...Thea?" they said after a long period of near-silence; her panting and the anxious swish of the tip of their tail against the floor had been the only sounds between them until then. "Thea, it's me. It's Fyf. ...You okay?"

Thea wasn't surprised when the figure in the darkness leapt forward. What did surprise her was that the figure leapt forward to help. She was coughing and strings of blue liquid were dangling from her mouth. Thea was suddenly very happy that she cut her hair... Memories of her younger sister, and even her long haired older brother piled into the druid's mind. Memories of them lying sick close (as she thought then) to dying. She would not be surprised if she was close to death. Oh gods, like the moment in the Reach... before Fyf had come in and stopped her. Fyf... the figure in the darkness... the one now looking at her... it was them.... It was Fyf, and Thea was oddly comforted by this. Thea looked over at them weakly before falling on the ground in and convulsing. She was sure that this was the end.

Blue eyes met hazel for only a second or so before Thea's head ducked down. Fyf closed the distance between the two of them even more, although they hadn't reacted quite in time to prevent her body from hitting the ground. Gathering her up as best they could in their arms, the Kinto crouched to the ground and placed her head in their lap, keeping her on her side. Heightened vision allowed them to be able to see the residue of something around her mouth, but they weren't quite sure what; regardless of what it was, they dragged their hand over her mouth gently before wiping the mystery substance on the floor next to the two of them.
Frankly, Fyf thought there had to be better non-verbal ways of answering 'no' to the question of "Are you okay?"
"I've gotcha," they assured, one hand on her shoulder and the other behind them, keeping their top half upright. Their words were calm and quiet, with an air of practice. "It's okay, I'm right here. You've got somebody here, Thea, and they aren't gonna let anything happen to you." Their tail curled around them, the tip of it resting feather-light against the woman's back. "You're safe."

"You're safe."
Thea heard these words echo in her ears. They seemed distant but at the same time near. She had felt Fyf lift her slightly... she was sitting now, still barely awake. The unconscious part of her knew that she wasn't dead, that someone was taking care of her now. The conscious part of her knew that Fyf was probably sitting in the blue sludge that had just expelled it's self from her insides. She was tired, oh so tired but she couldn't seem to sleep. She just sat there, leaning against Fyf because she was to weak and tired to move or sit up on her own. "Thank you," she muttered into the darkness. "Am I really safe?" Thea knew that Azuria was still out there. Azuria could come back. Thea shuddered and then started shaking uncontrollably.

"Yeah," Fyf assured. "Yeah, you are. Nothing's gonna hurt you, not while I'm here." Regardless of the words they used, Thea started shaking; the Kinto shifted their posture just enough to keep themself balanced without aid, then brought the arm that they had been using to brace themself around to put their hand on top of her head. Their other hand was still on her shoulder, and their thumb stroked the skin there rhythmically.
An idea crossed their mind, and they studied Thea's face for a few seconds before offering it: "Want me to put you back in bed? It's probably more comfy there. Warmer, too, if you're cold. I can pick you up and put you there if you want."

Thea nodded to Fyf, she hoped that he would see it in the dark. She didn't feel like talking much, as often is a side effect of having your voice taken from you and used by another. Every time she closed her eyes all she could see was Azuria. Azuria convincing her to put on the mask, that everything would be ok, that her pain would be gone. Then screaming.
But then there was Fyf. They had taken care of her and she didn't even know why, but she was grateful. Thea hoped one day she could return the favour, it wouldn't be today though... She was still shaking and unable to tell Fyf why.

They nodded back to her before shifting their position, gathering her up in their arms again; her head faced their body when they lifted her up off the ground. What moonlight there was provided just enough light for Fyf to be able to see the bed behind them, the dagger on the ground, and the dark puddle Thea had thrown up a few minutes ago. Sidestepping the hazards, they brought her quickly but carefully back to her bed.
Instead of setting her down, they knelt on the bed with both knees before lowering themself so they sat, still holding Thea in their arms. After a moments' pause or so, they inhaled to speak again. "Hey, can I ask you a favour? Nothin' you have to get up for," - they raised a hand, palm toward her, as though that would ward off any suspicion of the nature of this favour - "just a yes-or-no question I wanna ask."

Thea nodded. If there was anything she could do for the cat Kinto after this mess, she would. She hated being weak like this. She wiggled around in Fyf's arms making herself comfortable.

Carefully moving their arms as Thea shifted herself, Fyf thought of various ways to phrase what they wanted to say. Now was a good time for some tact, they figured - at least, as much tact as they could muster. It wasn't something they were used to doing, admittedly. "This'll sound weird, I know, but I'd come here to ask you this if you'd still been awake," they muttered, chuckling. They withheld the thought that maybe they'd also come in with the intent of checking up on her - what they'd said was still truthful, however. With a deep inhale, they turned their head to look at the woman's face as they spoke:
"I've got this thing where... Hm. Well, I haven't really spent much of my life alone, and I guess I'm used to sleepin' with at least one other person in the room. It feels more normal to me, sleepin' with someone else. Safer, even. And really, I don't know much of anyone else in the Reach besides you. So, uh... mind if I crash on your floor or somethin' tonight?" Looking over her features, another thought came to them, and with a chuckle, they added: "And I guess since you're not feeling the greatest, you wouldn't mind some company, huh?"

Thea's eyes were drifting shut. Every moment they were open was a moment her head felt heavy, sleep was overtaking her yet again. With some of her last energy she spoke. "Sleep on bed," she spoke quiet and soft. She had an absent thought that if there were pillow kintu then Fyf would be one of them, but it was absent and fleeting, she would never remember it.

Their eyebrows knit a little in surprise, and they tipped their head to one side. "Doncha want the bed for yourself?" they asked.
Only after the words had left their mouth did Fyf see just how tired Thea had gotten. Her face was much calmer now, her posture loose in their arms. She was just barely clinging to whatever amounts of consciousness she still had. With a chuckle, they brought themself forward so as to be able to lay her down on the bed. "You rest now," they whispered, head close to hers so she might still hear. "I'll be right here."

To answer Fyf's question Thea didn't want the bed to herself. She didn't want to be alone anymore. With the last of her energy she clung to Fyf, trying to communicate with out speaking. Don't leave, don't leave me here alone. Stay with me, please don't leave. It was while thinking this that Thea fell into a deep dreamless sleep.

Fyf had been prepared to stay in Thea's bed, to each their own side. They had been prepared to sleep on the edge of the bed to give her whatever room she wanted. They had been prepared to watch her sleep, or stare at the ceiling for a while. So to say that they were surprised when she clung to them was something of an understatement. Not that it was entirely unpleasant; they just hadn't been prepared for it.
They looked carefully at Thea's face, watching her expression soften as she finally drifted back to sleep. With a content sigh, they reached an arm under hers, letting it come to rest between her shoulderblades and rubbing the spot a few times. Her breathing evened out, and they found their own breathing matching hers. It wasn't long at all before their own mind started to grow foggy with fatigue.
Removing their hand from her back, they brought it back to their own side. A sleepy smile tugged on the good side of their mouth. Maybe I can fall asleep, too... they mused before losing consciousness.
