Italic = flashbacks Jay woke with a start, he never liked having dreams about his family as they mostly featured his parents and their treatment of him. However tonight was different. Tonight he dreamt about two females, one his little sister, Lidia and the other was one who reminded him of the first, Idina. His dream had been an endless loop of telling little Lidia that he was leaving and seeing the tears stream down her face and finding Idina's dead body. He stood from his bed, shaking and with tears streaming down his face and made his way to the small work area Ashen had set up for him. He hadn't worked on his black smithing skill in a while but needed a way to keep his hands busy. Grabbing his equipment that he stashed in there and some metal to work with, he got started. When the metal was ready for him to mould he let his hands and heart take over. "Remember little brother this is in our blood, just let your hands and heart take over" his older brother had told him while he still taught Jay the Ferrarius family business. He missed the times where him and Henry had been on good terms, it had all changed when the town discovered that Jay had been a changling, Henry became cold and distant. He still remembered the fight they had that lead to Henry reveling why it had happenend. "I don't understand Henry! One day we were fine and the next you hate me. Please at least tell me why" Jay begged and pleaded as he grabbed Henry's arm and pulled forcing the older boy to face him. "It's because you don't deserve this gift that our beloved aunt has! I do! I'm stronger, braver and more intelligent then you are, yet you were the one to get it!" Henry had yelled back. It didn't make sense to Jay. The reason his loving big brother hated him was the same thing that the rest of the town hated him for but for different reasons. "If I could give it to you I would. I never wanted this so called 'gift'" Jay had whispered before walking away from his brother.

ashen's sleep was disturbed by the slight hammering of a hammer and anvil even up to the attic. slowly lifting herself from her bed she managed to sneak out of bed hopefully not waking Fallen. carefully she wrapped fallens over coat around her. makeing her way walked down stairs to the blacksmith room in the basement where the nose was coming from. slowly she looked in from the hallway then leaned on the doorway she saw Jay working something. it was late, something but be bothering him. "what has you working on son? besides messing up your sleep schedule."

Jay was brought out of his flashbacks by his mother's voice. Looking at what his anvil he saw that his hands had him working on a sword just a bit longer than his own and looked at Ashen. "A sword apparently. I had been asleep but woke and I needed something to keep my hands busy. Sorry for waking you" he responded taking in Ashen's appearance. He truly was sorry, he hadn't meant to wake anyone up.

Ashen stood from the door way and took a few steps in. "It's alright I was having troubles staying asleep myself. Need to talk while you work?" Ashen asked as she took a seat on a near by create.
Folding the over coat to cover her more, she was surprised at it. Though she was roughly the same size as fallen it was surprisingly big on her.

Jay took a moment to really look at the blade he was working on, he was nearly finished with the blade, all he had left to do was sharpen it and make a hilt for it. Though for some reason he felt like engraving it. "Sure, though there isn't much left. I may make myself a dagger afterwards." he said looking back at Ashen. "There's a chair by the desk somewhere behind me if you'd like to sit there instead" he offered. His mother looked tired sitting with a coat that was too big on her. 'It must be papa's' he thought to himself.

"I would rather be infront if you, but I'll settle with the create beside you if that's alright. Thank you for the offer." Ashen smiled.
"You always seem to want to take care of me, isn't my job to take care of you?" She joked slightly it was true he often wish to take care of her but she would always look out for him too.
"So what are you working on? Looked to be a sword." She stated being obvious."whats got you so worked up you felt the need to make a fine blade?"
Her smile remained the whole time, a warm comforting smile. She kept the coat closed as she enjoyed the warmth of the forge and the cloth that covered her. She leaned forward on her knees and waited for her son to speak, Hooghly on what illed him.

Jay smiled weakly back at his mother and nodded. He listened to each of her questions remembering when they first met and all the questions she asked then even though he was mute. "It's our job as family to take care of each other no matter what roles we play inside the family, whether it be mother, father, son, daughter, brother or sister. It's our duty to take care and look after each other. Isn't that something you've told all of us?" He said in response to her first question as he started to make the hilt for the blade. "As for the next two questions. Yes it is a sword though I have a feeling my heart and hands are making it for another as I feel the need to engrave it. As for what got me worked up.... It was just memories playing on repeat in the form of a dream." he told her quietly. As he spoke of the memories he discovered what he was wanting to engrave on the sword. Idina's defender.

"Something along those lines yes that's what I said" ashen smiled proudly at her son, he had turned into a fine young man.
"Your heart spoke loud indeed, you should listen to it, as for your dream do you wish to speak of it. If you share your dream that has kept you awake I shall share mine though I doubt it is a tale you wish to hear."
Ashen sat up stair agian wondering if her son was in a sharing mood.

Jay saw his mother's proud smile and gave a small smile back, he always felt good when he knew he had made Ashen proud, though it fell as she asked him about the dream. He stayed silent working on the hilt as he contemplated telling her about it. Finally after a few minutes he decided it may actually help him if he spoke about it. "The first memory was one shortly before I left my hometown. I was sitting with my little sister Lidia in her room as I told her about the fact that I was leaving. She had been with me when I overheard our parents and the town's minister talking about running me out of town or killing me if I refused to leave. They had a mob ready and everything. Knowing though did nothing for either of us. I was sixteen and she was eleven, I was the loving protective big brother, she was the caring little sister who doted on her big brother. We had something in common though. We were both changelings. She hadn't changed yet but whenever she would, she would have more control over it then I did as it's a trait on my father's side that usually only goes to the females of the family. I held her that night as we both cried. I wanted more then anything to bring her with me but she told me that she would just slow me down. Hopefully she's out of that town now. She was betrothed to the son of a rich family a few towns over, one more friendly to people like us." He told her, taking a break to recollect himself. "The other one was finding Idina's body in that tree. She reminded me of Lidia you know? The blond hair, the brown eyes, how short she was and the colours she wore. I told myself that I wouldn't get close or develop any feelings to those outside of the Scale even if they were from a faction under the Silver Scale name, yet I found myself drawn to her. I felt the need to protect her and those she cared for and loved. Just like I use to do for Lidia." He explained to Ashen, feeling the tears start to roll down his face again.

Ashen stood and walked over to jay. minding any possible swings of the hammer and the heat of the new weapon, she gave jay a hug from behind him. "if i ever see her, ill bring her too you." her hug straightened slightly as she placed a light kiss on the back of his head.

Feeling his mother wrap her arms around him made any hammering he was doing stop. Leaning slightly into his mother he closed his eyes and wiped the tears off his face. "That was dangerous of you to do mama. I could have hit you" he said softly. Straightening back up, he inspected the hilt. Even with the hilt you could tell that this sword was meant for another as it was heavier then one he would use. He tended to favour the lighter, faster weapons, yet this one was heavier. The hilt seemed to be done so he decided it was time to attach the two pieces. "Go sit back down mama I'm ready to weld these together and will need my space. It's also your turn to tell what's been keeping you awake." he spoke. Getting the pieces ready to weld.

Ashen did as she was told, and walked back to the create. "i wasnt in danger, you would let me get hurt." she smiled as she sat at a create across from Jays working place. "i had a nightmare of the past also, not sure if you really want to know what your mother was able to do or not..." Ashen doubted slightly as she continued to watch him make a fairly heavy looking weapon.

Jay listened to his mother speak, picking up on the doubt in her voice, as he started to weld the blade and hilt together. "Mother you sound like you doubt myself and possibly think I may judge you for your past, yet you're the one who told me that everyone has a story, a past and not to judge one for that past but for their current actions so why would I judge you? Tell me. I want to hear. Maybe I can help." he spoke, not with authority or anger, nor any other negative tone, just one that conveyed truth and concern.

Ashen felt so he sincerity in his words as she leaned back against the wall, holding fallen coat closed again as she crossed her arms.
With a sigh she began "my nightmares deal with what my mother did to me in my younger years, the burn on my back and the people she made me kill, I see there faces and I hear there screams in my dreams." She paused for a moment then decided to continue.
"The other is one of Miara, and what she is capable of doing to both you and to fallen. The people closest to me...like it is a message" her gaze shift to jays slowly. "But it's probably just my paranoia" she masked a smile.

"Could be paranoia or it could actually be a message to you. The only one who would know for sure if it's either of those if Miara though and I don't really fancy hunting her down to ask her" he said to her as he kept working on the weld. "Have you talked to papa about this though? He'd want to know." he asked
