Out of breath and overheating from the sun and the weather, the drow assassin finally dropped to his knees beside the River Ann, far from the town and away from prying eyes. Fallen had been searching all day, tearing first through the town, then each forest like he had when the boy who'd been called Luxely first appeared. But this was different. He knew. He knew deep down that he wouldn't find her, not here.
Gasping for breath, Fallen doubled over, pounding his fists into the ground. "DAMN IT!" He yelled once more towards the water when he finally had enough breath to do so.
The worst part was that he suspected all day what was going on and yet he still let it happen. His blades had been non half an inch from plunging into Miara before she blinked away, taking Ashen with her. He had been so close...and yet to late. He was always just a little to late. Still breathing hard, the drow clenched his fists. If he had just been a little faster. If he had been a little less trusting....If he had had his daggers already drawn. He could have stopped it.
Fuming with self-loathing and anger, Fallen finally sat back, wiping the sweat that was pouring off his face with the back of his arm. Looking down he frowned, seeing the smudges of white across his dark skin. Uncaring in his anger, the drow began throwing his gear down on the river bank. Unstringing and unbuckling his armor he pulled it off with a huff. The warm breeze felt cool on his hot skin and he finally pulled off his tunic. The fabric of the shirt was so drenched that he could probably have rung it out. Instead he dropped it to the grass and waded, bare from the waist up, until he was waist deep into the river.
The water was cool and refreshing, rejuvenating him if only slightly. Holding his hands out so they floated just on top of the water the drow took a long and deep breath. Leaning over he angrily washed the war paint from his face. He felt like he did the day he watched Lin bleed out on the ground. Useless and guilty; a bad combination in him. The last time this happened his razed a village to the ground.

the heat made Synaria feel renewed. it had been so long sense she was outside, the warm air on her newly regrown skin. Synaria found a letter with black feathers, and knew what the letter meant. she had looked around for her Daughter, Ashen most of the day, but to no avail, she ventured along the river. she walked enjoying the sound of water rushing, enjoying the warmth of the day. even enjoying the the view of the lands she had not seen in almost a year.
a slight smile crept on her face as she walked. Suddenly a man shouting made her jump. 'who would be shouting such language out here?' she wondered 'i hope no one is hurt.'
slowly she walked to where the sound came from. keeping her scythe on her shoulder as her black dress dragged behind her along the long grass. her long snow white hair swaying in the warm breeze. She noticed Black clothing in the distance as she came up toward a large body of water, keeping her chin up instinctively as he high elf ways taught her, she looked around. The cloths matched most of her clothing, though she wore no armor.
She placed the end of her scythe on the ground with a dull metallic thud. as she turned to look toward the forest, then the water. seeing a Dark man swimming in the water. "aye?" she yelled kindly. "are you alright?" using her scythe to block out the sun to shield her red eyes from the sun.

Freezing when an unexpected voice sounded from the shore, Fallen tried to decide if he was to angry to care or not. Despite everything the uneasiness of being completely unarmed and vulnerable with his back turned to a stranger won out. But unlike previous days, rather than being nervous and timid, he was angry, to angry to care he decided. He had only two friends in the entire world and BOTH of them he failed.
Swearing once more, but this time in drow, the assassin turned. Staring at the woman from under dripping locks of white hair Fallen frowned, his red eyes dangerous. He didn't recognize her as either enemy or friend, he didn't recognize her even in passing. Plus there was something about her that made her even more off putting. She was beautiful yes....but from a distance she looked very.......drow.
A very uncharacteristic growl rumbled in his throat as he quickly shot of a teleport spell. It only took a moment for him to step out of it, his soaked pants hanging of his lean body, not ten feet behind her. "Who are you?" His voice was low and quiet despite his current mood.

jumping in surprise, Synaria felt uneasy as he teleported behind her. quickly turning, he red eyes locked on the drow. "by the gods, dont startle me like that. My daughter used to do that." placing her hand on her chest in her scare. letting out a slight sigh.
" Hello, Im Synaria, i assume your Red? there is only one pure drow in town my daughter spoke of, and she had indeed spoke of you. i have been looking for her sense i was awake by a horrible chest pain and i fear the crystal she tried to get for me today has gone missing along with her? she told me she would be home by sunset, and its unlike her to be late. seeing how i can not seem to find the location of my grandson jay, or anyone from the scale in that matter. i began to look for myself, have you seen her?"
Despite Synaria being startled she remained calm in her words. she only wanted to know where her daughter was. "something seems to be troubling you, may i help?"

Frowning as he listened to her speak, it didn't take long for Fallen to put two and two together. This was Ashen's....mother? She had mentioned her in passing but the woman who was standing before him was nothing like he expected.
As she spoke of looking for Ashen, Fallen's breath caught in his throat. Pivoting so he was facing away from her, he shut his eyes, head turned towards the ground. "She's gone."

"gone? what do you mean gone?!" her eyes watched Fallens expressions, his Demeter was very off. defeated even, and from the look of his gear, an assassin never shows this.
"please, Red. where you close to her? she talked of you often. what happened to her? i saw the letter, please what happened?" She begged
Synaria calm elvish features where over washed with worry and concern. "does...She have her?...again" Her gloved handed grip on he scythe tightened around her scythe, normally her anger was well hidden. however if her daughter was taken away by the woman who killed her also...Synaria would have to embrace Ashen's ways and go for a hunt of her own.

"I knew something was off with the boy..." His voice was a whisper. "I knew and yet I still let it happen." Fallen's hands clenched into fists so hard his nails bit into his palms. He was to caught up in his failure to even wonder what Ashen had told her of him.
"I was feet away...I watched it happen. I was to slow." Putting all of his anger and guilt and uselessness into his arm, he threw his fist into the tree beside him so hard that he felt bones in his hand shatter. He had done this one other time with Ashen....but this time she wouldn't be here to heal it. He didn't care. In fact he welcomed the pain, using it to fuel his anger and his exhausted body.
Lowering his arm, he didn't look at the pleading woman. "She's no where in this place. She's gone." He had searched everywhere with the exception of the catacombs, pushing himself to run for the majority of the day but with no success.

Lowing her head slightly as he talked, the spider charm in her hair shining slightly with the setting sun."so...she had her....agian?" her last words where drenched with rage. "pardon me....for this out burst" twirling her scythe she threw it to her left. impaling a tree quite a few feet away. it rang as it held its spot in the thick tree. "i do not trust myself as of this moment to hold a weapon. pardon my lewd language but i feel the need to yell..." she turned around and stepped away away from fallen.
Stopping in her chosen spot, she breathed in deep. Yelling she cursed in Drow very fluently. "Cha'kohken pholor dos, dos verin elg'caress! Sila rath ussta dalhar!" (curses upon you, you evil bitch! bring back my child)
After yelling, Synaria took a few deep breaths, bringing her arms up and moving them slowly to the front of her chest. placing her palms together in slight meditation. opening her eyes, anger never left her face as she turned walking closer to fallen.
only a few feet away, completely unarmed she needed more information. "who is this boy? how was she taken? did this boy have a blue necklace? i need to know EVERYTHING you can tell me, She may still be here... she wont die because she still blessed with the darkness of the temple, i could only take half. so she wont be killed, take solace in that fact and tell me all of the details you can recall, if you truly care for her tell me!" she tried to keep her anger aside as her Crimson eyes never left fallen in determination.
she hoped Fallen knew it wasnt He who had enraged her. if he was indeed a drow, he would understand what she shouted.

The assassins jaw clenched when he heard the screamed words. She spoke better drow than he did, her dialect fluent while his was heavily accented and choppy from lack of use. But the reason he tensed had nothing to do with this. It was WHAT she spoke.
Still not looked up at her as she approached once more, he focused on his hand as to keep himself in control. The steady drip of blood from his torn knuckles pattered a rhythm on the grass. "She thought it was her son. Luxely I think it was." Still, his voice was quiet and controlled, a better alternative to what he wanted to do which would be to throw a tantrum like a child. "He teleported her away before I could stop him. From the very start I felt something off about him."
Fallen stopped, flexing his injured hand and causing pain to shoot up his arm. "When I finally found them they seemed to be talking. But as I approached he whispered something in her ear and she looked right at me. She called my name when she noticed his necklace. I was feet away when he took her. A millisecond to late unsheathing my blade..." His words trailed off in a whisper.
Useless. Only one person who you bother trying to protect and you can't even do that. His thoughts raced, cruelly berating him. Death was his trade. He could kill someone in to many ways to count but he couldn't keep one person he cared about alive. Perhaps he wasn't meant to have friends.

Synaria looked away for a moment. "a necklace?! GOD DAMN IT Ashen you should have known better! have i taught you nothing?! if it was blue and silver it was the same necklace that Maria possessed me with!" Synaria growled. her calm composer replaced with anger common to drow. Sighing her anger away, she looked back at fallen. "im sorry for my language, this is the second time Maria has taken her. she was alone last time, and she broke remember, once upon a time when you met her in the plains. when she gets back, which she will...she will need you more then ever."
Synaria continued to watch Fallen, anger still overwhelming her as she struggled to keep it at bay. noticing he too, was struggling, to keep his anger and emotions in check. she felt the need to tell him words of truth and ones he needed to hear. "last time she was within the dark temple, when Zu was leader. the Dark temple is under my control now. thanks to her, Perhaps Maria is a creature of habit.... If she hurts my Daughter...Gods last time she wasn't the same...She wasnt Ashen after.." Synaria looked at the water, for a moment as she spoke. When she looked up, she took the last few steps toward fallen, placing her hand on his shoulder.
"thank you for trying to save her, if she called out to you, and trusted you with her life" she pointed at Fallens gear, where Ashens beads lay hidden. "She sees you as someone very important, not even Allynn had that honor. Last time, there was no one, And She has been alone most of her life. i dont know your past, im not going to pretend to know. however i can tell you, Ashen knows the pain of having someone ripped from you all to well, the pain of lose, all that, but she never lost her faith in those who she cared for. and clearly you are one of them. She will still trust you and want you near after we get her back here. Dont blame yourself for the works of that...that..bitch. this time Ashen has a reason to try besides just to live, but she will only make it if we are strong." She reassured him. Feeling the pull of the same Lectures her Monk trainers once gave her.
Removing her hand she she continued. "she is precious to both of us. we will get her back Red. no matter what state she is in upon her return... Honglath dosstan (calm yourself)...do you need a moment? or shall i meet you at the Temple, or wait"
Synaria stood determined and elf like. waiting for his answer.

He listened, eyes down as she spoke. Most of these things he knew. But at this point most of them didn't matter. They only applied if Ashen returned and that was something that seemed hopeless. He had no idea where that creature was and had no idea where to start looking.
Pulling his injured hand into a very painful fist he spoke. "I don't blame myself for her actions." Rather than quiet, his voice was angry, gruff, "I blame myself because I know that had I been even a sliver more vigilant I could have stopped it." He stalked away from her, feeling ill suddenly. What she had said suddenly hit him. So she couldn't be killed....but death wasn't what he was afraid what would happen. If she returned what state would she be in?
Throat tightening, the assassin turned his scarred back on the woman. He couldn't bring himself to make eye contact with her. "I need to be alone." His voice was quiet once more, wavering. The whole thing was so damn frustrating and hopeless.

"you need to be alone??!! We need to find her. every moment that passes as you brod is another moment that Ashen cant spare to lose." synaria noted his scared back as she spoke. she was rather annoyed, thinking his hopeless attitude was rather childish.
She walked over to where her scythe plucking it from its tree. "rather disappointing seeing a mighty drow assassin to act so childish." she scuffed. Keeping her back turned to him she faced town. "she wouldn't of wasted a single second if it was you caught by anyone..." Synaria spoke in a disappoint tone. she turn to look at Ashen's friend, locking her gaze on him once more. "at times when you get struck down, she comes to me at night in tears telling me she was a failure to you."
using her scythe like a walking stick, keeping the blade away from her. she walked back to town. "i wonder if that matters to you." She was letting her angry words leave her trained lips. she hoped her bait would work, it would enrage him if ashen spoke the truth about him. Synaria would have to wait and see.

"Wasting time?" Fallen finally turned, glowering at her back from under his fringe of still dripping white hair. Although his voice was quiet it held a careful anger. "I have been running for six hours." This was very much true. As soon as his dagger had found air rather than flesh he had almost immediately taken off at a sprint. (Minus the time he had spoken with Jay.) He was in good shape, and with the anger and fear driving him he had been running nearly non stop. But even he had his limits.
Now that his war paint was washed away it was obvious how tired he was. His face was drawn and exhausted and despite his dark skin one would still be able to see the dark circles around his eyes. He had gotten next to no sleep the night before either, having woken from a light sleep to screaming and searching the rest of the night for the missing Ashen. It seemed that was all he'd been doing for two days. "I have torn through every forest nearby. I have turned this town upside down. I have ran my body into the ground and you say that I'm wasting time."
Acting childish...normally the assassin would have gotten offended at this but at the moment he was to tired. Not to mention that she was probably right. If she was in fact drow and knew exactly how old he really was what would she think of him....? Only a child....
He stopped, his face falling when he heard her next words. Her failing him? No, in fact it was quite the opposite. "It matters to me." Rather than angry his voice only sounded exhausted, sad. "She matters to me. But unless you have any idea where they are. There is nothing I can do."

Synaria stopped in her tracks. she turned slightly to look at him. a slight smirk can to her lips, which she quickly hid as she turn around "there is something you can do. there is always something you can do." Synaria turned to Face fallen completely, the winds playing with the dangling skull chain on her scythe and her hair.
"you can go to the scale, and rest. If ashen escapes she will run there first. if you rest you wont be sluggish when protecting her, and you can keep her Family at bay." Synaria continued with a slight smile, knowing her bait worked slightly
"i no longer sleep sense Maria's first encounter and her lovely curse. ill look when you can not. Ashen is connected to the Temple of Darkness rather she likes it or not. i will begin scrying for her, it would be easier if i had something of hers that was close to her, but seeing as how she not very materialistic, it will be difficult. when you have rested, use the beads to find her, right now even in the sun they will be ice cold. they heat up when she is near. now i have to find this usra"
Synaria rolled her eyes looking around at the scenery for a moment to lessen the tension. "she has my crystal of purification, i dont like the thought of my soul being in her paws...hands..whatever she has, it was already squeezed at some point today, an i would like to not experience that again" Synaria sighed.

"Go to the scale..." he whispered bitterly. Entering a building and getting rest were two things that would never sit well with him. "I'll head to my camp. It's near the scale. I'll get no rest under a roof." Once more he turned away from her, hoping that she would have more luck than he did and wishing that he had known about the beads beforehand. He would have to look again, perhaps at night when his eyes were keener and the glare of the sun didn't hamper him.
Tiredly, he stepped over to the pile of his things and picked up his tunic with his good hand. Sighing at the fact that it was still heavy with sweat he dropped his arm to his side still clutching it. He turned to look at the woman from the corner of his eye. "Don't doubt that I'll continue looking. If I have to run myself into the ground night and day I will do so."
Now that he had a way of finding her at least he had somewhere to start.
