Thoror leafed through the pile of scrolls, looking for a simple one to start with. He had never really taught before, but how hard could a few letters be? Learning by repetition, he thought, would be the best way.
"Oops? What's that now?" He asked as he picked up a scroll with not much on it.

Gypsy grinned and sighed lightly, 'Thank goodness, does that mean Thoror hadn't been paying attention? What perfect timing!' Thought the rat. "Oh nothing... I was just saying how this isn't all of the scrolls, just some of them." She poked her head around to see which Scroll Thoror had chosen. "Oh that one!" She exclaimed.

"The elders have been called, they should be here in the next fortnight. It will be the first complete mischief in seven years."
A mischief? A whole mischief in Wildgard? That would be hard to miss, but perhaps these were written for another place.
"I have taken it upon myself to prepare young Gypsius for the ritual. She has much yet to learn of formalities."
Ritual? For some reason, Thoror couldn't imagine Gypsius partaking in a ritual of any sort. Probably because of the formalities. He shrugged it off as unnecessary, he was supposed to be teaching the Rat her letters, not learning her family history.
"So Gypsius, what do you know about letters so far? Where do we start?"

"I know this one!" She pointed, her ratty claw landing on her name. "And this one..." She pointed out 'Elders' and then she pointed out 'Mischief', Grinning. "I don't know the rest." It was clear that Gypsy had been slacking off in her studies, she knew whole words only by recognition, and letters only by seeing them in the words she knew beforehand.

"Do you know any letters?" Asked the Dwarf. "You should learn letters before words. That way, you can put together words with the letters in your head."
He pointed to the first rune. "This one is called Thorn, or Thunor where I come from. It makes a 'th' sound." Thoror demonstrated. "Tac and Hagale make the same sounds when put together." He pointed out those two to Gypsius also.

"Like Thoror?" Gypsy nodded, as if she actually understood. "There are only a few of those on this page..." She frowned. "And if I have to use one letter at a time to make words, then why do all the letters to make words have words to call them letters?" She frowned in disappointment. Clearly this was the reasoning behind Rachel willing to try other means to get Gypsy to learn her Grammar. Rachel must have hard a terrible time.

"Yes Gypsy, like Thoror." He chuckled, and pretended to make sense of what Gypsius said next.
"I'm not sure about that, Gpysius. But why don't we save that question for later and learn just the letters for now?" He smiled a wavering smile at the rat, wondering if he could actually teach her, of have the patience to try. Oh well, he thought, this was the best thing to take his mind off all that happened lately.
"Do you know what this one means? The sound it makes?" Thoror asked, pointing to the rune next to the thunor.

Gypsy took a look at the Letter and frowned. "You know... I don't really feel like learning my letters right now..." She was lying, but in truth a sudden feeling came over her and she couldn't quite concentrate because of it, she had a strong urge to go outside, so she looked up at thoror and Gathered her scrolls and stuffed them in her bag. "Sorry, but I have to... do something." She said, running out the door. Gypsy had always been the wind, hard to catch and difficult to follow, one minute it could be blowing this way, and can change direction in an instant.

"Okay Gypsius, you can learn them la-" He was quickly cut off by the rat gathering her scrolls and running out the door. "Gypsius?"
Thoror sighed. That Gypsius, always running out for an adventure. He thought back to the first time they met, she was so eccentric and full of life. Nothing had changed. He just hoped that he wouldn't need to call her cousin again if she got into trouble.
He walked back to where he was previously studying, and cleaned up the scrolls here. He might as well head back, there was nothing else to do. As he walked out of the library, he realized he hadn't even hugged Gypsius goodbye. He hung his head slightly, and just barely noticed The Bear barreling down an adjacent street, and Horson following her. He looked quite ridiculous, running in that silly red skirt.
And speaking of ridiculous, Thoror probably did too. He made a note to himself to get to the tavern and clean himself up as soon as possible. Perhaps tomorrow would be an ordinary day.
Or perhaps not.
