"No I haven't, I wish I could. I don't want him to think I don't think he is capable of protecting me or thinking I don't feel safe around him, because..." Ashen grew quieter, still holding the coat closed, it looked like she was hugging herself. "It's quite the opposite, I feel so safe around him, all of my defences just, calm. It would only cause me more heart ach. And I don't feel much like hunting her down either" she giggles slightly as she returned her gaze to her son, as he worked on his blade she noted how he worked and his style, it was different from matsu. Must of been someone else's teachings.
"You handle a hammer well, you said your father taught you?" She questioned, her mother smile returning

Jay listened while his mother talked and understood why she's hesitant to tell his papa. "Maybe so mama but I think you should tell papa, including what you just told me." he said to her with a smile. When she asked about where he learned the skill he paused and his mind got pulled into another time.
Jay watched helplessly as his father slapped Henry. "I thought I told you no more teaching your brother the family business!" father yelled at Henry as he stood stock still. "What's next? You going to go against my orders and make a dagger for that dammed younger sister of yours? the one you two boys seem so keen on protecting? Maybe I should bring her in her and slap her a few times or do the things your mother never let me do to you two! Maybe then you boys will listen!" Their fathers last few words were the breaking point for Jay who had been silent until that point. "NO!" he yelled. "You hurt her or do those things to her and I swear to G-" Jay abruptly stopped as his father back handed him. "You swear what boy? That you'll hurt me? You couldn't if you tried. Now no more of these lessons or Lidia gets it!" his father said before storming out of the room. "You should have said anything Jay. He's going to know now that the way to hurt you is through Lidia and you know exactly what the last part of that threat meant." Henry said. "I know"
Breaking out of it Jay hammered the last few times needed to weld the pieces together before whispering. "My father hated me. No, he taught my brother Henry who then in turn taught me... even in secret up until the town discovered what I am"

"i dont feel burdening him with the weight of my past will do any good" she smiled slightly watching her son work.
"your brother sounds like a good man, just like you. I remember you saying your village didn't like changelings. i find that to be silly honestly"
she sat back leaning her back against the wall. the warmth of the forge warming her fatigued body.
