"Going Home" By Ursarius, Starfire, and Drogax
At the end of her trail, where the trees broke formation and opened up to a plain sea of sparkling white. There were no footprints here, only untouched land as far as the Eyes could see. The Land where the Forests of Wildgard withered and died, In the Summer months the land was so festered and vile that not even birds would fly above it. It was this toxic Fenbog Swamp that took Ursa's eyesight so many months ago. She stood at the end of the wildness and at the mouth of nothingness. Somewhere beyond that blanket of icy death lay Ursa's home. Ursus Dauntamontis. The Fearless Bear Mountains. It was a small range full of Massive Bears.
She sighed, Taking in the thoughts and memories of her Homeland. She was Born Ursarius Dauntless of the Dauntless Bear Clan. Fearless, they were called. And Ursa was the smallest and weakest bear, a runt. She had too many Emotions, they told her. She was weak, She let her heart grow soft and let it take all her hits. She wasn't a Real Ursunid. She was nothing but a half human cub, A Bear Kinto at best. All the Years of growing up on the mountain, she had only two friends. Longclaws and Short-tail. They Defended her when no one else would, when the elders shunned her, and the other Ursunids voted to have her exiled from the mountain. They Refused to turn her away. They Fought with her and made her strong, taught her how to survive, How to be a good, useful Scout. And when she was hurt, Longclaws the Medicine Bear was the first one there to heal her wounds with natural Ursunid magics and White light.
When It came time for Ursarius, of the Dauntless to face her final test of the Mountainmen, she was cast into a ring of rock formations and pitted against her brethren in an Honor Duel to the death. She was armed with nothing but her Scout Sash and a Staff. Against her one love, Short-tail. The Grizzly Bear was almost the same size as Ursa, but faster and more skilled, He didn't hold back, and soon Ursa was faced with a decision, To fight and Kill Short-tail, or Die trying. The fight waged on for several hours, until Great Ursunid Longclaws stepped in and called a halt to the Fight. He healed both Fighters and declared a draw for the first time in the Dauntless History of Ursunids. The Elders were appalled and demanded a rematch. Short-tail agreed, much to his friends shock and disapproval. It was set for 3 moons later, And when the time came for the Rematch, Longclaws pleaded for Short-tail to spare Ursa, And Ursa refused to fight and Kill Short-tail. Meanwhile in the Ring, The Elders set up a Three way fight to the Death for all three friends. Short-tail was scared of Longclaws and Fled from the fight. They Searched for 13 Nights and couldn't find him. Short-tail the Scout had abandoned the Mountain in search of a Safe place to Hide from Longclaws.
It was nearly two months until the Elders deemed Short-tail an Outcast and forsake him. He was not to return to the mountain for fear of Death. Longclaws and Ursa tried to move on without him. but Convinced that Short-tail loved her, She left the mountain to find him... As his Hunter. Ursa was supposed to Scout him out and bring him back to the Mountain top to face his punishment. But when She found him, He had taken off his Scout sash and refused to comply. Another Party of Bears Led by Longclaws found them on the mountain and took them back to the Elders, where Short-tail was put to death and skinned of his fur. Out of memory and love, Ursa Kept his fur. She went on to fight in 13 more circles, and lost every one of them. Convinced she'd never be a Real Ursunid, She ran from home and Left Longclaws to be her Decoy.
That was when Ursa met Billy, here in this very Swamp. He saved her Life, and She fell in love again. This time with a human. All of the Events at Wildgard since ensued, A few months Later, Longclaws was sent down from the Mountain, this time to Bring Ursa back to be put down in the same manner as Short-tail. Hesitant to kill his only remaining friend, Longclaws took his time finding Wildgard, but when he did it was to help Ursa. Hearing that she had called for help from the Mountain, and none of her cries were answered... he was enraged. He Reminded her of what it was like to be a Bear. To Be Ursunid. To be Strong. And for awhile she felt like she had what it took to win Starfire back from the Darkside, To make up for everything. She Felt Powerful for the first time Since the death of Short-tail. But she was wrong. So very wrong.
"Starfire.... I'm so sorry I can't be there for you" She spoke. "I've failed you for the last time..." She put her head down and walked across the frozen Swamp, She let the Pain in her heart grown numb with the cold, and along the way she hummed to herself, Singing of the wonderful times the Bear trio had spent together. She sung of the times they'd lay in the grass in the warm summer sun, the Feasts of Wildgard... She sang of the times they explored the forests together, of the council elections, of their tavern escapades... and of their love for eachother.
Ursa's face was frozen with tears, She was walking proudly to her Death. Leaving Longclaws in Wildgard when he wouldn't get punished for his treason. He'd be much Happier in Wildgard with the never ending supply of Mead and grog, never ending fight and wars, He'd fit right in. But for someone like Ursa, where her heart and her love is the most important treasure... she had nowhere to belong. When her love is her greatest weapon, there can only be one reward. Pain. and Guilt. Billy would be angry, and he'd throw a fit... but he'd move on, Maybe go find his father in a far off distant land. Finally do something other than look after a blind bear with far too many problems. And Star had her own family now, A Clan full of Bloody wolves and Lythari. She'd been given the freedom she wanted, And free to do as she pleased, She left Bear with no other choice. If Ursa Stayed, She'd have to kill another friend. And She was done killing the ones she loved.
"I'll Miss you Billy... Starfire... Fallaryn... Longclaws..."
